Yep...all true.Oh I agree totally, but by the same standards should surely apply to whoever leaked the story to the media in the first place? Just as we don’t know if there’s any truth in the claim that Rayner said the words attributed to her, we also don’t know if any claim of misogyny (at least in this one instance) was based on facts, as the person who started it did so anonymously.
I don’t doubt sexism and misogyny are rife within the HoC, nor would I try to defend it, but I think this whole episode demonstrates the total lack of trust that the public now has in ALL politicians. Following the last 2+ years, cake-gate, Durham parties, and many other stories, we know beyond doubt that MPs tell lies, we know that the media will print a story with no evidence of its claims, and rarely quoting its source. Nowadays it seems that anyone can say anything and as long as it can be used to gain political advantage, it will become a ‘truth’.
When the Sharon/Angela story first broke, it was being discussed on morning TV, the phrase used was ...'A good journalist never reveals their source', which gives the news media carte blanche for them to print any old tosh and claim it came from a 'reliable source'.
They could even be making it up themselves to sell their papers for all we know.
