Totally agree. ET changed my mind and wet my faceNo.
Behaviour problems start at the beginning. Way before adolescence. And video games.!
I had to do research on this when getting my degree. The studies showed that if not causation then correlation for sure. There is an uptick in violent behaviors associated with gaming.Do violent video games and movies lead to behaviour problems with young children or young teenagers ?
Thanks ........
I guess then the question is .....No.

Agree with the last bit ," don`t have to do any parenting " . The Lockdown has brought that to life for many and shown that they much prefer to be having a good time at work than working hard to bring up their own children.I do think it desensitises them to violence. They don’t seem to understand they can’t just press the reset button in real life. But that’s not just computer games, so much stuff on tv that shouldn’t be viewed by kids but too many parents just allow them to watch anything they want as long as they don’t have to do any parenting.
I bet those particular children had a pre-disposition to violence anyway .I had to do research on this when getting my degree. The studies showed that if not causation then correlation for sure. There is an uptick in violent behaviors associated with gaming.
Even i play online video games ,one is a wargame but it`s not really violent. It`s strategic. When i was younger i remember playinmg a lot of video games but really i was testing my skills or speeds not how violent i could be. I think you are close to the answer Jay.Or maybe we all have a genetic marker geared towards violence and playing violent video games exacerbates the desire?
Games can also be used as a positive, such as the late nineties RPG, Final Fantasy 7, where a lot of people actually learnt English and grammar through playing that game and reading the text. So there are more positives than negatives when it concerns gaming. The negative influence on people is a very small minority, as not everyone will decide to go out and copy their games in real life. What influences violence in children and adolescents is insufficient socialisation.
Hence video games and TV get the blame because they are what take up a child's time whilst they are not socialising.
Parents who don't allow their kids to socialise and let them play video games are the problem.
I have to smile at that . I think the main purpose of school today isn`t to learn lessons or subjects ,but to learn how to socialise ! Take the recent furore about schools being closed during the Lockdown. Kids complaining that they "can`t be with their mates " ,isn`t that socialising ?.What influences violence in children and adolescents is insufficient socialisation.

Schools dont teach kids these days, they normalise them.I have to smile at that . I think the main purpose of school today isn`t to learn lessons or subjects ,but to learn how to socialise ! Good point, hell2bwith76. I think many of us played video games to improve our anticipation and co-ordination/dexterity skills and not merely to annihilate the opposition. However, it is funny how many RPG's and strategy games are geared up to 'kill off' an enemy or opponent, isn't it?Even i play online video games ,one is a wargame but it`s not really violent.
