Sadly he will never have his health back. After another very long hospitalisation, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer at the beginning of this year. He has given up the alcohol though, but he is still a heavy smoker.Very sad post Penny, the problem is though, as you said, your friend neglected himself.
Doctors, at one point start neglecting you, if you're not putting into practice what you're being told to do (or not do).
All they can do is prescribe medication, but there's no miracle pill that will help him - he has to put in some effort, if he wants his health back.
Smoking/Drinking is a definite no/no if one has bladder/lymphedema issues.
Has he had a cystoscopy?
Is he a diabetic?
Is he on diuretics?
As for a Diagnosis..
Since he's still smoking or/and drinking , I doubt they will form a diagnosis anytime soon. - they usually exclude ailments, one by one, , but given the fact he still seems to be a heavy smoker/drinker, it could actually be the cigarettes/alcohol causing all his bladder/health issues.
Get him off the cigarettes (and alcohol) and get him onto fresh fruit and veg especially asparagus, fennel, and pineapple ( fresh, not canned).
Unsweetened fennel tea is good.
It tastes rank, but it should help his bladder issues.
Remove all processed food from his diet.
Hope he gets better.
This year the hospital found him a place, in a nearby rehabilitation centre. He was happy there, and well cared for by the staff. Unfortunately, he became ill again with a reocuuring problem, and is now back in hospital. We are hoping he is able to return to the rehab centre, when he has recovered from his latest bout of ill health.
