It feels like the system is set up to fail both the patients and the dentists. It must be so frustrating for a professional to want to help people but be held back by all the red tape and lack of funding. For people who are struggling, the lack of dentist availability, check-ups and treatments must feel like a ticking time bomb for their oral health. It is like a two-tier system where you either go private or have nothing. There has to be a middle ground.

I've seen a post on Facebook from the Daily Mail about this dentist and I was wondering, has anyone heard about this 'Indian dentistry' case? A dentist in Stroud was struck off for sending emails saying she was 'ashamed' to be associated with Indian practitioners and that she didn't want to be 'linked to an Indian company.' She took it to the High Court and they’ve actually reinstated her, saying a 6-month suspension was enough. Seems like a huge controversy for the GDC!
It makes me wonder what everyone else thinks—does a dentist’s background or where they come from actually matter to you when you’re in the chair? Or is it purely about the skill and the quality of the work they do? Does it matter if they are Indian, Irish, or whatever, as long as the dentistry itself is top-notch?

When you're sitting in that chair all that matters is that they know what they're doing.
Since I moved to 'affordable'
private dentistry I've noticed the difference with NHS treatment. The last time I had a tooth out on the NHS it was a gruesome experience. He gave me the anaesthetic injection in my gum twisting the needle all around, it was excruciating. I was then sent back out into the waiting room while he saw another patient. Then brought back in to have the tooth yanked out. Everything was all just so rushed. Compare that to a couple of years ago when I had to go private to get a tooth removed.. He explained everything then said I'm just going to probe around a little here, while I had my eyes tight shut, then he said we'll just wait now for that to take effect. He'd given me the injection and I didn't even feel it. And the tooth came out no bother.
My thoughts are with the people who can't get a dentist.
