I appreciate that people who have been married for a very long time do have something very special. I'm on my second marriage and occasionally compare it to my first. I have no idea If I'll ever marry again, but for me, it is nice experiencing married life with different partners.

Marriage is a legal contract and can incur obligations difficult to get out of once you've signed the contract. Love, real love, does not really need a contract - it's a personal thing that has it's own lifespan and cannot and should not be tied down to a time limit.

When I was younger looks were everything. I was fortunate because I was considered to be both good looking and sexy (there is a difference). Now I'm older sex is not so important to me and neither are looks, I go for personality, humor, intelligence and all that sort of thing. However, if I see someone who has obviously not taken care of themselves, regardless of looks or age, then it is a signal that perhaps they would not be interesting to communicate with.

I would think that in Nature the reason for one man one woman was Prehistorically for the male to go out and provide food for the family and the woman to bear and tend to the offspring .As with all species reproduction is the real reason for two sexes?.
This being so then men would fight over women and a lot of the time i bet rape was a normal event ,meaning that the male who was left out was ...left out !. Then as Man /Woman gradually advanced they saw that the only way to make sure that the man was providing for his own offspring was to have some sort of deal ( marriage ?) which tied the pair together as a family. From that to the modern marriage with vows and contracts and now with expensive glam weddings plus male Stag parties and female Hen parties it`s become a big commercial thing .

Marriage unless conducted in a registry office is normally an act of utter hypocrisy where the bride and groom attend a church for the first ( and last ) time in years adhering to what is essentially a ceremony based in religious dogma. Generations ago marriage was important mainly for religious reasons.. does anyone believe people frown on those " living in sin " any more? The only reason I would get married would be to an elderly female coffin dodger with a generous nature and a will - lets face it women have been playing that game for years.
