Do you think chat room cliques exist?

If someone makes a stupid/ignorant/offensive comment and several others disagree it does not mean they have formed a clique it just means the person has made a stupid/.......etc comment

Is there a clique on the forums?
yes ,same clique as in the rooms .The mates tick"like" to the replies from their clique buddies :) It`s not so easy to spot the cliques in the rooms with a lot of chatters in as the comments from buddy to buddy may be quite spaced out by many lines ,but go in to the rooms where there are (e.g.) about 8 people in a clique and anyone who is outside that clique stands out like a sore thumb. Believe me i`ve tried joining in normal chit chat and i just get ignored and anyone could see that as the room is so underpopulated .

Come back Wicked Perdition ,all is forgiven ! ^5

Not without expectation, this thread,
like so many others, has been bastardised by a sad minority of people, many of whom rarely, if ever, contribute much to chat, let alone Forums!
I do agree with hell2bwith76 regarding a particular chat room that very few new chatters EVER return to, simply because they are either not welcomed or felt alienated by the regular incumbents of that chat room. I have no doubt that most people will be completely aware to which chat room I refer. And, yes, it IS that one we never see you in. ;)
I do wish a certain moderator would not take personal slight at everything I post in the Forums. People are given a choice whether or not they respond to a thread.
It's called democracy.

'Unaccustomed as I am' ....... I would love to know what value, if any, people place on being part of a 'chatroom clique'. Or, are they, quite simply, a figment of other chatters' imaginations?
You've all seen how the 'herd community' operates in chatrooms by jointly attack/defending particular chatters, but have you ever considered that you might be part of that herd community yourself?

I often quote the phrase, 'safety in numbers' which itself would compound that a herd community is inevitable. An individual often feels safer when others appear to share the same view as they do.
On this occasion, I am proposing a 'survey'.
The choice is yours.
:)
I think in many cases, some chatters have simply chatted to each other for many years and so have naturally become friendly or close and in some cases, may also communicate outside of chatrooms. Those people speak largely to each other possibly because they know they have lots in common or are pleased to see a pal pop up in the list and they enjoy talking to them.

In some cases, someone previously 'popular' in a chatroom may be snapped at by another and, depending who has the most chums in at a given time, could be ganged up on by the opposing group and instantly become a chatroom pariah!

Sometimes, one can join a room and simply fail to engage with the topic afoot or get no hellos at all. I think that's often because people are deeply into a topic / spat / flirtation (!) or because one may have been an irritating arse the last time and people just don't want to talk to them. In that case, it's best to pop back later. On two occasions, I feel I have been ganged up against. I let it get to me, madly. Quite unwise. One cannot argue with stupid, after all.

Interesting results so far though eh ? Considering that the ones who are deriding the suggestion appear to be in the majority.

I speak from experiences in just 1 chatroom on this site .It`s one which most people enjoy being a part of but has recently lost favour for some unseen reason. I have found ,please don`t call me paranoid ( some will i know !) that if a particular person isn`t in that room the others will chat to me normally .If that person ( plus maybe a partner) is in the chatroom the others won`t chat to me ;in fact i think they probably block me . I don`t need to say a word .The herd mentality is definitely there and yet these people are the first ones to claim that they are independant minded .Ha!.
Put it in equation for ...take 3 members.X is sociable to Y & Z ; Y & Z don`t get along at all. Y is matey with most ( if not all) of the other roomies so when X is in he/she ignores Z to ensure that they stay in with the majority. X is typical of each of the others in that room so Z inevitably gets the cold shoulder.
There is nothing sinister about this result. In online chat people like to feel included so they drift towards the favourite in any room ,even if that favourite has a few failings. That`s life i guess.
Wow Hell dear, I taught Algebra and couldn't follow all your X, Y, and Z's. Lol

Do you know why sheep, are so paranoid, why they all follow each other and have a crazed look in their eye?
Well i do.
They eat so many magic mushrooms in season, the poor things are tripping out for 365 a days a year.
Thats gospel that.
Never look a sheep in the eye!

Maybe the cliques are really manic religious sects disguised as chatters? lol

Typical gangs ,real and virtual ,are about 10 strong with obviously the same interests . Considering the diversity of interest there seems no reason for anyone to be snubbed by the others. The main reason for that is if more than 1 of the group is at discord with 1 or more of the others in group and then people pick sides !. In a room with a max capacity of about 12 anyway it`s very obvious who is being ostracised. Take a room with 100 or more present then the same gang won`t even be noticed most likely ,drowned amid the rest of the banter. One main room is an obvious candidate for the "clique" mentality. Apart from Local or specialised chatrooms the rest are a mixed bunch.
Does that help with your Algebra Oboist ?:) x
