Anti-vaxxer dad-of-nine wanted jab before dying of Covid
A 45-year-old dad-of-nine who was taken in by anti-vaccine social media posts was determined to be given the coronavirus jab before dying of complications related to Covid-19.
Unvaccinated Stephen Doyle sent a heartbreaking message to his ex-partner while isolated in hospital, saying that he would get vaccinated against the virus as soon as he could.
Tragically, he never got the jab, dying before he could be vaccinated against the disease, leaving loved ones heartbroken.
According to his family, before he caught the virus and was hospitalised he had been influenced by anti-vaxxers on social media, reports Cheshire Live.
Following his death, cousin Michelle Pierce, a nurse practitioner at Llandudno Hospital, spoke on behalf of the family.
She said they wanted people to realise coronavirus was affecting younger, healthy people who haven’t been vaccinated – and their families too.
Michelle, 54, said: “When Stephen was in hospital he texted his former partner Nichola and said, ‘I’m getting the jabs as soon as I can’.
“He said he never wanted to go through this again. Sadly, he never got the chance to get vaccinated. It was too late for him.
“He was against the vaccination before he went in and I would say he was influenced by all the talk on social media.
“He had no underlying health conditions. He was fit and healthy.”
The former docker, who was working as a dispatch supervisor at the time of his death, had already been in hospital because of Covid but was discharged with antibiotics in mid-December.
Michelle said: “We don’t know whether he discharged himself or not but he was self-isolating. His ex-partner Nichola went to see him on December 22 and found him very unwell.”
She called 999 immediately and Stephen was readmitted to hospital with breathing difficulties and very low oxygen levels in his blood.
Within 24 hours he was moved to the hospital’s intensive therapy unit (ITU) and the decision to put him on ventilation was taken on Christmas Day.
The family say he also had a Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) in his leg, which was concerning the medical team.
Michelle said: “Coming up to New Year the medical staff were quite positive and they were trying to get him off ventilation but his body was fighting it and they had to stop. He still needed mechanical ventilation to keep him breathing.
“We got the call on January 2 to say his condition had deteriorated.”
Doctors told the family Stephen had developed bilateral pneumothorax, which means both lungs had collapsed and four drains had to be inserted into his chest to help him breathe.
Michelle said: “The medical team at Warrington Hospital called us in and explained they were running out of options.
“On January 3 they told the family there was nothing they could do. So the decision was taken to withdraw the treatment.”
Michelle said Stephens’s mum Janet, sister Nicola and his former partner want people to understand Covid-19 was not just affecting the vulnerable.
She added: “People need to know this is happening to healthy people. If we can save one person by making them get their vaccinations, it’s worth telling our story.
“He was just a funny guy. He liked to make people laugh and was always up for a laugh. He loved spending time with his kids and making them all happy.”
Michelle, who also lost her unvaccinated father-in-law to Covid, revealed the whole family is 'devastated and numb, angry and frustrated'.
“Stephen’s mum, my auntie, doesn’t want anyone to go through what we are going through,” she said.
“A lot of people don’t need to go through this, do they? They should just get vaccinated.
“All the people who we know, who were vaccinated but caught Covid, didn’t have severe symptoms. People believe things with no evidence.
“Please go out and get vaccinated and prevent your family going through what we as a family are going through – it could be avoided.”
“I also want to salute their courage in thinking of others so soon after losing a loved one.
“They are of course absolutely right - getting a full course of Covid vaccinations is by far the best way of protecting your health during the pandemic.

Anti-vaxxer bishop dies of Covid-19
Metropolitan Kosmas of Aetolia and Acarnania, western Greece, a staunch anti-vaxxer, has died of Covid-19 after a month-long with the virus. He was 76.
The bishop, who had refused to get vaccinated against the virus, was admitted to a hospital in Agrinio on December 1 with Covid-19 infection before being moved to an ICU room at the capital’s Evangelismos hospital.
His ICU admission sparked controversy among his critics.
Kosmas was a vociferous critic of government measures to contain the spread of coronavirus, including mask use and vaccination.
During a sermon in 2020, Kosmas lashed at those who were reluctant to attend a packed church, calling them “unfaithful.”
“God does not allow you to be infected. God does not infect! It is a holy place, the temple is heavenly,” he said.
Last year, Kosmas was summoned by the Holy Synod to explain himself over his “disobedience and disrespect of the unanimous decision of the collective body of the Church of Greece” regarding the coronavirus health measures during the Easter period.
The cleric’s 75-year-old sister died of Covid-related complications on December 13. She was also unvaccinated.

A fervent Italian anti-vaxxer who gained a cult following after his regular phone-ins to a popular radio show has died from Covid.
Maurizio Buratti, 61, known to his fans as Mauro from Mantua, had boasted of being a 'plague spreader' after deliberately going to a Carrefour supermarket without a mask while feeling ill and having a temperature of 38 degrees, just days before his hospitalisation.
He said he was 'defending the constitution' by ignoring public health advice, and refused to get tested because he believed the swabs caused the virus.

Mrs Weldon claimed leading doctor Dr. Anthony Fauci “needs to be hung from a rope” as she recorded herself screaming at people who were standing in line to receive their boosters.
She warned on one video: “The vaccines kill, don’t get it!”
Another showed her saying: “This is how gullible these idiots are. They’re all getting vaccine!”
She passed away Thursday from in a hospital in Camarillo, California, reports state.
