I listen to this symphony in tandem with the Rachmaninov symphony in mid-winter
It was composed in 1937 in the prelude to the commencement of World War Two.
In a similar manner to the Rachmaninov, it evokes the anticipation of a dystopian world.
So, to me, it is a very appropriate piece to play in this present day.
