The problem is, ignore doesn't really mean much unless it's used by many.

You're having a nice chat with your mates and you have bo... er User X on ignore. Then he kicks off and your mates start replying to him. Now you're conversation with your mates is disrupted and they've shifted their focus to User X. He's managed to screw you over even with you not seeing him.
Mods won't help because "it's become drama" and you're just left sitting quietly waiting however long it takes to fizzle out.
Then repeat this over many days.

If everyone actually used ignore as it was intended the worst of the site would be starved of attention and the problem would solve itself.

Using ignore is only effective if both parties have the wit or intelligence to use it to save the chatroom further hassle. However as we know there are some who prefer the rucks and drama so no way would they use ignore.

I honestly don't know but there seems to be a touch of that from what I can see.

Over the past few months he's had 13 kicks and 2 bans that I know of and I'm not there all that often.
He's also had many many many warnings.

And bear in mind this is from mods that hide behind "it's drama" to not get involved.

This isn't someone who's doing oopsies or slightly bending the rules. It's someone who's knowingly being deeply unpleasant repeatedly.

It's perfectly fine to name me rather than refer to me as “an admin who hadn’t been in for a while and no doubt was unfamiliar with the chatter in question.” I was absent due to some health issues, which are private to me, but I am, and always have been, very aware of and familiar with the chatter.

I'm genuinely surprised that simply changing a chatter's name has caused all this upheaval. I have changed many names on this site when requested, just as I delete accounts when asked to do so. It's a service we, as administrators, are expected to provide. Batman sticks out like a sore thumb, so it was pretty obvious who it was.

Many chatters have accounts running into double figures. Why? I honestly don't know. Should that be against the rules? Perhaps, but at present, it isn't.

As for the suggestion that I protect him or allow him to break the rules, that's simply not true and, to be honest, is a very unfair accusation but totally understandable now I realise that im being offered up as the scapegoat.

I have personally actioned him on numerous occasions for making homophobic or racist comments, and when he has gone too far, I have banned him.

That said, would you like any of your male family members to be called a sex pest, utterly disgusting, a predator or a pervert? Because I certainly wouldn't. There is a difference between challenging someone's behaviour and resorting to personal abuse, and I don't think the latter helps anyone. If you have any proof of these things I would absolutely deal with them in the way they should be dealt with.

I realise that blocking or ignoring someone isn't a fix-all solution, but it is a good starting point. It gives us the opportunity to intervene and moderate situations properly, rather than allowing things to escalate.

Hurling abuse at him really isn't helpful, nor does it make the situation any easier for those of us trying to moderate the site fairly and thats something I have always been.

I am simply trying to do my job as an administrator, apply the rules consistently and treat everyone fairly.

As an administrator, you should know better than to be naming the accused in a public forum. The fact that you bit and quoted a sentence that obviously offended you, and then proceeded to mention your own private woes, tells me that you are not cut out to be doing this job.

This has become a thread to criticise and insult the staff, unfairly, and make accusations that are simply not true. Mods do not hide behind anything, it is the site policy and always has been, that if members opt to type insults at each other rather than use ignore, then it is just chat drama. The solutions are available. Either do not respond, use ignore or screen shot and report with that evidence if a clear break of the rules has occurred. If you ignore, we can enforce the prolonged harassment rule. And yes you can still report even if there are no staff present and it will then be dealt with when we do log in.
