Thank you for the lovely comments and support folks. I did actually process this decision over a few days. Chat has always been full of creepy feckers along with some really lovely people; just like the real world. I usually just block and move on. This week saw a chatter with multiple accounts being given a name change by admin. Lots of people were outraged. Why was it allowed?
I decided not to argue the point in main as I watched others do it and he threatened with a ban. Again why?
So yesterday afternoon I had a cup of tea and considered my options. I do consider this person to have the potential to be dangerous. Do I just press ignore and continue to use a chat site that supports him? Does that make me complicit?
I totally agree with you Flower. We ignore the bad and focus on the positive relationships in chat but after two days of making light around a situation I found entirely questionable I decided the only positive action I could take was to leave. I have no other power here.
I’ll check my account again over the next week and answer any messages people send as long as my account stays open. Much love x

Let's clear this up once and for all.

No chatter needs admin permission or help to create a new screen name. We DO NOT do it for them. All chatters can do it.

NO chatter is 'protected' - everyone has to abide by the site rules and TOU they agreed to when logging onto the site.

And finally, the site provides the option to report, with evidence any breaches of the rules. And it also provides an ignore option.

So admin at no point change a chat name for a chatter? I was in the room when it happened Elwood, (although it wasn’t you).
It was an admin who hadn’t been in for a while and no doubt was unfamiliar with the chatter in question, although she did acknowledge there were multiple accounts so was struggling to find the main one to change.
I agree the site rules are what they are. I haven’t asked you to change them, only delete my account because I’m unhappy with their execution.

I didn't say that. You know they can. I changed your screen name for you a long time ago. I am saying that chatters do not need us to create a new screen name. Then may I suggest that you private message the admin to discuss this rather than consider leaving ? I can't become involved in another admins activity, it would be discourteous and undermining.
