Labour have very little choice on this issue. About 20% of those out of work are claiming PIP/DLA/INCAP. 3.9 million people in England and Wales claimed an incapacity or disability benefit in August 2023, an increase of 9% from August 2022.

In the UK we have about 35 million paying income tax including pensioners.

With over 10% of people claiming long term sickness benefit's and never returning to work. Lets face it, its unaffordable.

If the new government puts up taxes people will start to work less and the knock on effect will be more claims for in work benefits. For many work is becoming unaffordable with child care costs. The cost of living is way to high right now and increasing VAT would would slow down the economy.

I feel labour will focus on people with children and cut welfare payments for single people to pay for it.

Labour had a plan for winning the election, but nothing beyond that. By Oct we should know where the cuts will come.
Do you know how much the bill would be if all disabled people applied for a home carer through the council rather than having a friend or relative do it for pittance ? PIP is cheaper than other means by far .

Well. we were lectured, here how great life was going to be under labour,, for years by the political animals here.
All those really funny side splitting posts, a few days in, they go after oaps, and children.
I dont see anyone laughing now.

Anyone who is even slightly interested in politics, and I most certainly am, read the book Fraud, Keir Starmer, Morgan McSweeney, and the Crisis of British Democracy, by Paul Holden (a highly regarded investitive journalist) when it is released on the 13th next month.

The so-called "centrist" right wing takeover of "Labour" is covered in depth via leaked emails etc and yet more evidence of the lengths the right wing took to rid Labour of the left (Corbyn).

The Canary (a left wing site) is currently doing a serialisation, and it is absolutely fascinating to learn just how devious and sly and even clever, these people really are. :)

What is interesting is that it does not matter who is PM and sitting in the commons , they are not the ones with the real power who run the country . Lindsay Hoyle seems to have more power in the commons than the elected and this can be observed on many occasions .
