I've managed to sort it. Very strange that it only seemed to have an effect on joining this chat, but had a look on my talktalk account, did a line check, and seemed there was a fault with router. Suggested powering off for 20 mins, apparently this gives enough time to timeout the broadband. Voila, fixed.

Pretty much. Just don't understand why, since it was all new stuff that had just been installed. So had all just been turned on for the first time. Also weird that it only seemed to stop me signing into these chat rooms, but not the sister site.
Anyway, posting how Laidbackian had resolved the problem, it helped me figure out where else I needed to check. Thank you for that
