The general opinion of government handling of the Coronavirus seems to be that a good job is being done. This sentiment was even scored by the Question Time panel and audience this evening.
Are we now seeing Boris as a force for good, rather than the comic he has played too often?

When he wants to he can do good work. He acts silly sometimes, but can be very intelligent and sharp witted also. He's stated in the past that you should never let your opposition know what you're thinking, and what action you will take next. His scruffy look and seemingly care free attitude is just a very clever and cunning facade.

As for their action on the virus, they've taken as many needed precautions as they can. I think they're aiming to keep things under control until the summer time when the hot weather arrives, with the belief and hope that the hot environment will kill whatever is left of the virus.

Boris isn't your typical Conservative. He's more of a liberal who isn't afraid to spend on infrastructure and public services. My only concern, and i had this with Labour, is overspending.

Thing is, we have an overdraught of nearly £2 Trillion.
Don't suppose we can pay it off just yet...My kids will be delighted. :(

The amount of spending is eye watering. I'm not opposed to spending either, but i just wish our politicians were sensible about it. My faith in both the Conservatives and Labour is dwindling as each day passes. We need something fresh and new.

Seems to me that all of the developed world, mostly developed at the expense of the undeveloped world, is up to it's eyeballs in huge debt.
Trillions of pounds are owed to whoever, often called the world bank? When do they insist on some recompense, or are they happy to live off the interest they gather?
How long can it last?

Just had it explained by an ex chancellor. Seems there is agreement that providing a country's debt does not exceed 2% of it's GDP … then all is well.
So that's ok then...we can go for £2.5 T, oh! we already have.

Whatever people may think of Boris, he's no coward. I first thought this before the election when his own seat of Uxbridge was looking very precarious with that small majority he was defending and 'Momentum' actively targeting the constituency. He could have took the easy way out and switched to one of the safe Tory seats that had become available. He risked total humiliation by standing by his constituents.
Regarding yesterday's statement, again he could have took the easy route and followed Ireland and most of Europe in closing schools, universities and large public gatherings. But he took council and did what he thinks is the right thing to do at this moment in time. It's a risk because Jeremy Hunt has already put the boot in. The vultures are waiting to pounce.

And he advised people not to go on any cruise ship just now, what with there being a few circling the globe, looking for somewhere to dock... and no one wanting them.
And when the fuel, food water etc runs low......well don't panic!

Ships endlessly circling the globe because no country will let them dock, reminds me of that ship carrying Jewish refugees fleeing persecution in Nazi Germany. no one would take them in. :(
On another note why has air travel not been curtailed sooner? How do you keep 2 metres apart on a plane? all that recycled air, not a healthy environment to be confined in . . . .

There's no need to worry about air travel: There won't be much soon.
This will cause huge problems/sackings and Virgin have, I see, already asked the government for £500m just to keep going.
Lock us up in isolation, no passengers...no income.
It's not just the airlines!

One will never please all of the people all of the time. I think Bozzer has tried to keep everything up and running for as long as possible for obvious economic reasons. He's now under fire for that. Had everything been closed down earlier, he'd have been under fire for that, too. Such is politics. This is why I don't do it.

I'd vote for you. :D

As he is not an expert, Boris has stood by the recommendations of his science and medical advisors. He's been slated for doing so. I'm sure he'd be slated even more had he ignored this advice. I can just the the headline in the Independent... "Arrogant PM thinks he knows more than specialists"

Whatever he does he can't win, only time will tell if he's got it right. But all those who are having a go at him don't have to make the decisions.. he does.

Poor Boris. Even the bags under his eyes now have bags.
By putting us on a war footing he can now emulate his great hero, Winston, to his hearts content.
And to think he fought for the job!

He was heavily criticised when he was foreign secretary. Jeremy Corbyn is angling for that job in Labour's shadow cabinet, yeah, I can just see him visiting Israel . . . . .

Not forgetting Emily Thornberry, dear me, what a shower Labour's front bench is these days. As for that Abbott woman, there's an excellent thread about her somewhere on this forum, but the less said her better.
