"Giving everyone a chance without discrimination or judgement"

Owners of a takeaway in Carrington have been working tirelessly throughout two lockdowns and Tier 3 restrictions to help their local community, key workers and the homeless. Husband and wife team Nad and Roxy Shahzad, are the owners of family business Nad Grill, and along with their team, have received a string of nominations as Covid Heroes from customers and friends who want their voluntary work recognised.

When the world was turned upside down, there was only thing so many of us wanted to do – devote our time to helping others.

And for Scott Walker and his determined team, that’s exactly what happened.

After lending a helping hand at the outbreak of Covid-19, the crew from KAEFER Scaffolding – made up by Gary Barwise, Peter Little, Craig Scott, Jamie Cross, Kevin Steel, Steve Simm and Steve Sorensen (and their two children), Alan Mattinson, Gary Hall, Grant Carson and Shane Padley – looked for a way to help out during the festive season as well.

I would rather this thread did not fall into the way of many of the other threads. A point scoring operation and fight between certain forum users. If that happens, I will ask Admin to delete the whole thread. Which would be a terrible shame as it is a place we can find hope in all this darkness. Or that was my intention when I made the OP.

So please, no matter the dislikes etc., you may have for each other, please take it to another appropriate thread.

Thank you.

So you can post your WOKE propaganda?

"How does this impact people of colour? The subversion of ‘woke’ is political and means the word can now be used to perpetuate the very injustices it sought to eradicate in the first place. This word has power, and the people who use it as a weapon are all too aware of the underlying connotations of racial and social ideologies. It is used to undermine and disparage the voices committed to fighting for social justice and the rights of minorities – and to silence these views without engaging with them. When the word ‘woke’ is adopted as a pejorative in this way, used to poke fun in advertising, commercialised on slogan t-shirts until it loses all meaning, the significance of the racialised origins of the word is eroded and rubbed away to nothing.

Hermes driver for Afon Village in Rogerstone given big tip

Community's big thank you to delivery driver who made sure presents arrived. Afon Village raised hundreds to thank their local Hermes driver.

''WHERE would we have been this Christmas without our delivery drivers? With non-essential shops closed and people told to stay at home where possible, Royal Mail workers and drivers for the various delivery firms have been going above and beyond to make sure Christmas presents are delivered in time. And residents of Afon Village, in Rogerstone, Newport, wanted to give local Hermes delivery driver John - and his faithful assistant Dee the dog - a special thank you.''

"What a wonderful community we have."

Elise Webster added: "This is amazing. John is such a fab guy and as you say goes over and above."

Sheila Maslen said: "Out of bad comes good; what a lovely side effect.

"I think we've all woken up a bit and appreciated things we used to take for granted.

"Well done John and a big thank you to the wonderful community we live in."

FIVE MILLION BRITS VOLUNTEERED FOR CHARITY FOR FIRST TIME DURING PANDEMIC.

An upside to the pandemic is that more people are helping others by offering their time or donations to worthy causes.

Coronavirus appears to have brought out the good in people, with a new study estimating that five million UK residents signed up to be charity volunteers during the pandemic.

The Remember A Charity poll of 2,000 people, found that one in 10 adults in the UK (around 10 per cent) offered their time to a charitable organisation during the pandemic, for the first time in their lives.

The recent study found that more than 50 per cent of people had been self-reflective during the pandemic and had realised the importance of community.

The survey also showed people had a greater intent to help; it found two out of 10 British adults (21 per cent) had got in touch with organisations and groups to show their interest in working for a charitable cause since Covid-19 hit the UK.

Some individual charitable efforts have garnered more attention than others during the crisis. The nation celebrated as war veteran Captain Tom Moore, who turned 100 in April, set out to raise £1000 for the NHS by walking 100 laps of his garden. His effort was reported in the media and shared on social media platforms and captured the imagination of the British public. Captain Tom ended up raising more than £32 million for the NHS and received a knighthood.'

Well done Sir Tom Moore. The epitome of the great British spirit. Selfishly helping others, no matter who or from what background.

Volunteer David, 60, helps lift spirits in his community during Covid-19 pandemic.

Community-minded David Wynick has been helping to lift the spirits of older people in his area of Leeds during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The 60-year-old grandfather-of-two is a volunteer coach in ‘walking football’ at Moor Allerton Elderly Care (MAECare) - a project he became involved in after attending a session organised by the charity with help from Leeds United in July last year.

From his work on that, he said he learned of the greater need for interaction among the older community - something which clearly became an issue with Covid-19. “What started off as attracting and organising sessions for both men and women over 50 soon became much more as I recognised the need for interaction, chat, banter and the including of people I could see were at risk of, or suffering from, isolation.
