Very Interesting thread with very differing points of view, i actually see a lot of sense in bad's original post, i can also see why Heroes wants a dig, but if we are all being honest,, none of us here are experts in epidemiology or pandemics, we offer our OWN thoughts and for me that is no bad thing, at least we are the ones who are actually thinking about it and what it can mean for the future, in my own humble opinion, this is only the start of what is to come in the future,, we need every country in the world to wake up and smell the coffee, we all need to be working together to try and i repeat try to stop practices that can obviously cause these things, for instance we in the UK know that if you put cooked food and raw food in the same place in a fridge it can make you seriously ill or kill you, BUT that is not an issue in some countries,, i hope you get the drift?
i dont know if any of you have seen the market place in Wuhan that is apparently the cause of this pandemic or the markets in india where the stall holders are washing carrots in the road sewers, to name but 2.
I do hope this thing passes us by and that the vast majority of us survive, we know that people have and will die in their hoards but what we as a planet MUST do is learn from it and hopefully put measures in place to at least prevent it happening again.

How very diplomatic of me in this answer ;-)
So,,, Wash Your Hands,,, Keep Your Distance,,, Stay Home,,,, BUT most of all,,, PEACE TO YOU ALL ;-)

Thinky Boy.

My concern is what's happening now in our country. Technically, we've become a totalitarian state. Powers have been enacted that weren't even used during the second world war. Powers that mean our democracy is currently non-existent right now. Now i do think Boris Johnson was reluctant to go this route, but feel as though he was under so much pressure to go that route. I know Labour and others on the left, love the idea of this sort of power.
As for me? I'm concerned as to what kind of society we'll be left with. How long will we be under this rule of law? I hope it's temporary, but it's certainly an eye opener to what has happened. People's freedoms have been stripped away, and the Police have the power to stop someone, ask where they're going, and even arrest or fine them. We're not allowed to travel to nature resorts or beaches.

I wonder what's next? Make it illegal to question what's happening right now. Mandatory vaccinations perhaps?

I a keyworker and feeling very let down. I work 8n elderly care a d when it hits this virus will e devastating for us. Our annual leave is cancelled, we are operating in extremely odd circumstances all tense for the second someone coughs. We have non of our usual back up from volunteers or cheery visitors to brighten the resident's days. We are on our basic salary. People, at home are continuing to accrue holidays having pensions paid and 80%of their wages.... In many cases firms are making this up to100%. I wonder if we wlll be thought of and receive any reward? Possibly 6 month reduction in our pension age or something that can be paid over time rather than adding pressure now. One can dream eh?

Technically, we already have been stopped. We've been told to adhere to social distancing rule, and that we're only allowed out of our prison cells once a day for exercise, unless you're a key worker of course lol.
you forgot the shopping trip

I believe this virus is very real, and that people are dying from it, but i do question the numbers, and if we're overreacting in our efforts to stop it. I've had to switch the news off as they're constantly on about the numbers of deaths, and showing scenes from inside hospitals.
As for the pension system, it's all a scandal really. I won't be surprised if they're eventually scrapped altogether. And the people who get them receive a pittance of a pension anyway, unless you've paid into a private pension and are in the high bracket earners. It's a disgrace, it really is.

Yeah lol. You then question who are these advisers, where are they getting their information from, to lead to these lock down policies. They even say the lock down could be indefinite until a "vaccine" is found. Now those who have had flu jabs in the past, may think alarm bells are ringing here.
We have a case where scientists are advising governments on how to deal with these pandemics, and then applying mandatory vaccinations to the public as a solution.

It can't just be me but I think from a species point of view we are, globally speaking, dealing with this pandemic in the wrong way. For long term benefits we should have taken a short term hit.
We should have prevented anyone showing symptoms from going to hospital, and let the virus run its course. Yes we may have had to face up to a 20% loss of the world population, but let's all be honest, the globe is massively over-populated and nature will always find a way to balance things.
I know nobody wants to lose family and friends, but the vast majority of those who would be taken by Covid-19 are, to put it bluntly, on their way out anyhow.
The gains of this approach are numerous... Less financial strain on pensions, more food means less starving people in the world, more available housing, far less strain on the NHS and associated businesses, no disruption to the education system, more available jobs for those out of work, to name just a few.
As I have said, nature ALWAYS wins, and if we are to be arrogant enough as a species to believe we can carry on as we have done, then this virus will be drop in the ocean compared to what comes next.
This is only my opinion and I accept that many or most will call me uncaring / thoughtless / sociopathic or worse, but one thing is unquestionable... I AM a realist.
Just check out dr vernon Coleman. He tells you whats really going on

Seems to me that if you wipe out all the old people you also wipe out their experience, knowledge and understanding of the human condition.
I reckon that any society that would sanction leaving their parents and grandparents to an early and unnecessary death would not be one I would want to live in.
Perhaps this is the answer you wanted?
Exactly what dr Vernon coleman is trying to get across. He needs to be listened to so we can all wake up

He tells his opinion, some of which is true, some of which is guesswork. Just like everyone really. All we can do is try to glean as much truth as we can from all we hear and realise that everyone is biased in some way, they all twist the truth to their own agenda.

Well at least Coleman doesn’t run ads or profiteer in any way by imparting his information.
Can I ask what you suggest we should do(apart from wearing the tinfoil hat)?

It makes no difference what I think we should do or should have done, nobody is going to listen to me. Lol. I do believe we should have had separate hospitals for COVID patients and we should have used the herd immunity method, albeit impossible to do from any government stance as it would have been Political suicide.
I believe the use of masks should either be mandatory everywhere or nowhere. Having it in shops now but not previously seems strange to me, especially when we can go to so many places without one.
With regards to the vaccine, yes we should try to find one but to bring it in too fast, without complete and rigorous testing over a long time could be very dangerous. As we have seen many times in the past, the unknown side-effects of unproven vaccines can be worse than the disease it sets out to prevent.

Giving up helps nobody but I do agree we’re cornered. But by the same criteria so are the gov’t. Whatever they do or don’t do will upset someone. As has been said here previously, there is nothing that’s gone before that they can use as a template for action so all they can do is listen to advice from specialists and even this will change as the virus mutates and/or progresses.

Viruses are strangely natural and eugenic as a pandemic will generally kill off those with weak immune systems within a set eco system or systems. Genetic clusters that are unable to absorb it and generate a natural immunity over time die out and those that are immune reproduce. I agree we shouldn't be engineering or trying to control it i think it should of been treated with either extreme 1. complete lockdown and shutdown or 2. just carry on completely as normal. The half way approach has been a disaster both economically and socially and also gave those in power the excuse to enforce measures on populations through the backdoor out of fear from the mismanagement of the spread to begin with. Those that have information networks within western countries knew about this virus months before it hit europe but still allowed airports to remain open and flights in and out from the most badly effected areas on the planet mainly China and the Far East.

Something doesn't feel right to me how now there is a huge decline in deaths but suddently now they want us all to wear masks when we need to buy a pint of milk lol

Governments have been playing catchup with this virus from the start!
I still wonder why 'eugenics' is not being discussed?

Eugenics? Are you suggesting that the leaders of 100+ countries could agree on a plan to reduce the global population? Countries including the US, China, North Korea, Russia and many countries in Europe? Ffs many can’t even agree that it gets dark at night and you think they can sit around a table and agree on a policy to kill millions? Be realistic fella.

He was replying initially to my point of the virus being a natural eugenic i don't think he was implying that there is some world man made eugenic conspiracy to kill out huge waves of people or attack set genetic clusters that would be less immune to it. But now I think about it who knows what those in power think

Yes and when they threw alcohol into the mix that was petrol to a flame. I speak as someone who has seen many die of all sorts. I was there with HIV/AIDS too. People have short memories and are selfish. Especially today. A second wave is maybe needed to remind them of their stupidity. There should have been NO foreign travel for first year. We did not travel abroad a fraction as much years ago. People are generally spoiled. You reap what you sow.
