It's been a mixture of opinions and views based on this, both from parents and teachers. There are those who have already taken their kids out of school, even before the announcement of the schools closing this Friday. I personally think we have to do everything in our power to keep the country safe, especially our vulnerable and our elderly, who are absolutely terrified over this global pandemic that is unfolding more and more each day.
I've taken steps the past few weeks to stock up on food because I've expected an eventual lock down lasting fourteen weeks. So I've been taking this very seriously as more and more cases have been revealed across the globe. Unfortunately, people have died, so I'm concerned for my grandfather, who is in his late eighties, and is in that high risk age bracket. So I've been steering clear of any visits, just in case i infect him.
This is one of those situations where no one is going to be happy. Everyone will struggle in some shape or form during the next few weeks or even months. But i will do my part to protect others who are more vulnerable than i am, and i hope people do the same.
I absolutely agree. I think we need to absolutely conform now and do what's required. This is particularly difficult for those of us who have terminally ill parents but still have to go to schools and other places, mingle with others and try not to harm our loved ones. As a result, I have had to make the horrible decision not to see my parents nor one of my sisters because work comes first. Nasty situation.

I thought more would have opinions about the school closures mentioned in my original post here. Maybe people aren't bothered!

I thought it was a good idea to close schools. 6 hours into school closure and I’m grey, rocking and craving wine like an alcoholic.

I think a majority of us have just been concerned about our friends and family at the moment, and preparing for the worst if things do go in that direction. It's not a case of people not being bothered about other people's situation, but more about prioritising on what they feel is important right now. It's a horrible situation to find yourself in because you don't want to be putting things into lists of importance. It's like others here have mentioned, that there is no perfect situation, and it will be based on an individuals circumstance.

Really pleased; I thought people would be up in arms. I do believe we have started complaining less!

This is affecting two of my family members at the moment and another has just lost his job due to this all. I just hope we all come out of the end of the rabbit hole at the other end in one piece. Good luck everyone.

It's a bad time for all unfortunately and yes all we can do is hope. Be safe. :)

I'm sure the majority of students are happy about the school closures, seeing as their teachers will be awarding them estimated grades in their exams. I think we can expect a record pass rate this year.

I pulled my kids out of school voluntarily as of last Monday.
With school holidays approaching, whispers of a lock down being imminent (which turned out to be the case) and talk I was going to be sent home to work anyway, it just seemed logical.
Tough on them, particularly teens and their socialisation but they have their devices and connectivity. We are lucky to live on a rural property so plenty of fresh air and sunshine, exercise etc.
Have to look at this as an opportunity for the kids to learn a few things they might join the education system... Gardening, baking/cooking and the like.
It's not forever and as parents important we take the stress out of it so life goes on...

Yay! Completely agree. On my Google Classrooms I am also setting silly tasks for them to do. I have suggested a spot of vacuuming for tomorrow!
