Further to my Tumble dryer saga in the above posts ^^^
When I purchased the dryer I was offered free delivery and they'd take my old machine away. Also, if I bought anything else from them in the next 12 months that also would qualify for free delivery and they'd take away the old appliance. - All for a payment of £36. I took them up on the offer. I didn't end up buying anything else from them so I came to thinking that it wasn't worth the money.
Imagine my dismay when checking my bank statement recently to find that the company had taken another £36 on the off-chance that I would be buying something from them this year and would again want free delivery etc....
For the past two weeks i've been bounced back and forth between my bank and the retailer. The result? - No refund, i've done my money. And just when I was saving up to go to the dentist!

Be advised, If you're making a one-off payment for a service online, make sure it's not a recurring payment.

A friend had a similar problem. She paid extra by buying a yearly holiday insurance on the off-chance that she might go abroad a second time. As it happens, she didn't, so it was a waste of money, but that's down to her... But the following year because of her poor finances, she had no intention of holidaying, only to discover they debited money out of her bank for another years insurance. She never got her money back either. It's a legal scam!

So...be advised, If you're making a one-off payment for a service online, make sure it's not a recurring payment.

In an emergency know how to turn the water off, and I don't mean just at the stopcock.
I had a leak where the pipe joined the stopcock so turning the water off there would have made no difference. In fact, it might have made the leak worse by rocking the pipe. Imagine the damage of mains pressure water entering your home. So what to do? Did I have home emergency cover on my contents insurance? I checked... yes, thank you God! I phoned the number and within an hour a plumber was out...on a Bank Holiday Monday! Of course, he knew straight away where and how to turn the water off outside the house. He explained to me that you need a special tool to turn the outside stopcock off and showed me you can make one with just a few pieces of wood. What a nice man.

That quirky comment ^^^ has solved a mystery for me... as to why the outside stopcock is so low down in the hole that you need a special tool to turn it. It's to stop kids/mischief-makers reaching down and turning people's water off.

I'd love to say that's the reason but its not ;)

Its water regs. Outside stop cocks needs to be about 1 meter below ground to stop it freezing in cold weather.

Is that the real reason? Oops my bad, as the hedgehog said climbing off the toilet brush.
You're a very learned person. ;)

Someone in the next Close has been broken into, i'm not sure what they got away with... A policeman friend of mine once told me that the best place to hide your valuables is in the loft, as it's the one place burglars won't venture, because if they're rumbled there's no escape route. Sounds like sound advice.

Treat yourself to a Cordless Iron. I can't believe the years I've spent faffing around with the cord on the iron. You wouldn't think twice about getting a cordless kettle even though it's only in your hand for seconds when it's in use, but you can spend hours doing the ironing.
