It's about 11 mins long and breaks down the growth of society into empire into civilization and then the collapse which has always cycled throughout history. He just uses 'The west' as an example in this video but much of his other work was examining previous empires and civilizations across the world.

It's a much more compelling and inspiring view of History in my view than how a Marx, Darwin, Smith or a Voltaire recognised it.

I think that philosophers should all be sent to bed with a smacked bottom.
They pontificate about the unknowable, at great length with no understanding that what they seek is ,,,,,, unknowable.
I don't know either, but I probably don't know as much as they don't know.
