LadyOnArooftop asked for a decent thread, and so this is my humble contribution. Labour have said today that they do not intend introducing legislation to ban 'smacking' throughout the UK and, although it is already banned in Scotland and Wales.

What do you believe?

I think smacking children is fine, but it's always best to check the parents aren't around, first. Especially if the dad is bigger than you.

I once got stopped by the police for smacking the kids (mine!) At the time I thought they deserved it, I wouldn't do it now. I've posted about this incident previously on this forum so I won't bore you all with it. Wouldn't want to be accused of suffering from 'repetitive chat syndrome'.

I believe people are a product of their childhood.

I left home at an early age (by today's standards) because 'dad' bloodied my nose one time too many.

When I confronted him years later, he said, "but I was only 90%% to blame" as if it was some kind of justification (lol).

I hadn't seen him for years and by then, a little fat old man, who was sunbathing and who hurriedly put his shirt back on when I approached and who thought that if he puffed his chest out he could still intimidate me.

I never spoke to him again.

Some people never change, not necessarily because they don't want to, but simply because they just don't know how.

In an ideal world parent's should not assault their children but the real question is how would the ban be enforced?
it would be impossible to enforce IMO without breaking every law in the human rights charter ex gr...Article 8 Respect for your private and family life.

It could work if we had mandatory parenting classes as soon as you know your pregnant & have them run by the community.
attendance say once a week, not ran any Government body or church, make it law with punishments of prison or exile.
It's the only way forward.
