You hear a lot these days of 'my truth' and this always confuses me. Perhaps I am also out of the loop, or maybe I am just too old, too set in my ways, too uneducated! to know any better. Because for me, there is only THE truth.

Now the truth is what the ‘left’ say it is
Oh i'm not too sure about that, it depends on which 'left'. The Labour left said Corbyn would be the next PM, now they're not even letting him stand as a Labour MP! :)

Its actually really simple.

Nationalism, I love, in its original form.
The idea that we have a nation AND respect other nations to do as they see fit.
The problem arose when we saw "Democracy" as "Right" and tried to force it on others.
Understand that countries make thier own ideologies, that they may be culturally different than us and respect that.
That is nationalism in its true meaning.

I can disagree with thier ideals, but who am I to tell them they are wrong.
Thats up to them.
Anything else is pure arrogance.

Edit (fecked up my thinking, nowt new there)

Its the blind leading the blind here

Our society only reflects current public mood and trends.

Lets take the gargoyles.

View attachment 11902

For almost thousand years these have been on public display.

There a product of there time & few would argue for there removal.

If we look at LadyOnArooftop statues links to slavery, again its a product of its time. Slavery was "cool" until the mid 1800's. Owning a slave was "bling" and a symbol of wealth for thousands of years.

Society changed and while we all try to distance ourselves from this part of a shared common history, its still part of our growing pains. All we can do is learn from it & by removing signs of our past there a risk of repeating it.

It will be surnames next

On the forum of the blind, the one-eyed man is king, and I see through you! ;)

Those rooftop gargoyles are gorgeous pieces of architecture, leave them alone!

But the OP was concerning the statue of the two vikings being labelled far right and racist, which is absurd! How far back should we go? Were the Romans who raped and pillaged Britain far right and racist?

This like most things comes down to cash ;)

Just look at slave reparations o_O

You have to look at the bigger picture here. If you're going after someone's family who long since dead, a public campaign of removing statue to the men involved can only help your case.

It's the re-writing of history to get "Feels" for the historically oppressed.
If one could tear down the "Great" things empires of the past have done, one can view life as a series of oppressions.
If one can tear down "God" or the "Family" as symbols of oppression.
It invariably leads to "I have no reason to live, as I live on the back of oppressors".

Simple Nihilism.

We could wax eloquont about the psychopathy of "Type B" personalities, or sheeples.
We could wonder why some people want to be protected, while others like risk.
We could argue that in some ways re-distribution of wealth is a good thing.

But, by doing so we are missing a simple point.

Those that dont believe that meritocracy is the best form of social eqaulity have never needed urgent brain surgery.
