I was fortunate to be given a ticket for the Merseyside derby on Sunday. Everton's new stadium on the riverfront is fantastic, such a lovely location. It was a great match too. I had to laugh at the Liverpool fans baiting the Evertonians by singing 'Nineteen... ninety... five, nineteen ninety five... you've never won anything... since nineteen ninety five.' 
On the way home last night I got to wondering if the residents in those luxury apartments nearby objected to the building of the stadium. I say that because years ago Everton wanted to build their new stadium further up river at the King's dock, but NIMBY residents campaigned to stop it over parking issues, crowds etc. Now, that stadium would have only got used once every two weeks during the football season. And what ended up getting built there instead? A concert arena that is in use almost nightly. Careful what you wish for.
