-A single flower-
How insensitive, everything around her. Raging torrents. Creaking, crunching, and crashing. The sound of splintering wood... The sky is dark, gloomy and grey. Almost black now. Tornadoes whirling towards her threaten to engulf everything in their path. No mercy. Holding onto something trying to stay upright as the huge passenger ship it sways back and forth. Holding on for dear life on an ocean vessel. A tiny figure in comparison, Insignificant she feels. The vessel, wrapped around it a seemingly endless wet dessert itself insignificant in comparison like a ring in a desert. Overwhelmed by the violence of it all but at the same time not wanting to let go of thoughts precious to her. Amidst the chaos a single white orchid washes up onto the deck and she wants to, no has a yearning to move towards it. Wave after wave relentlessly pounding the ship, each one larger and more ferocious than the last. Then it comes.. bringing with it a thundering rumble, a wave so large it blots out the sky smashing into the side of the almost battered to submission ship. It rocks violently almost crying in pain. Her heart is racing, pounding hard and steadily like a war drum, fear and anxiety at breaking point. Then a single thought. A feeling of calm takes over and in that moment of tranquility she lets go ignorant to the danger, turning her back on the feeling of security emotionally and physically, she steps out towards the lonesome soaked flower..
A Storm to end all storms. She’s not going to let her leave. Her arms start to ache as she paddles with all her might away from the ship. The wind it roars and in that moment her mind recalls tales of ghosts and phantoms, witches and sea serpents. Fellow sailors laughing as they enjoy supper together over candlelight and oil lamps. Shadows would dance around the room. The rain lashes down blinding her and she can just make out the outline of a sinking ship. A last goodbye as it disappears from view as though the sea was a snake taking down its prey whole. Out of nowhere another wave crashes against the dingy capsizing it. She scrambles back to the surface the adrenaline pumping through her veins, shallow breaths, her heart racing, pounding hard. Using the last of her strength she manages to grab hold of something. The sky, dark, gloomy and grey turns to black, nothing but darkness all around.
A solitude squirrel hugs the branch of a tree high up wailing the equivalent of human emotions .Who knows why. Maybe it cries out for a mate. It Seems animals they cry too. It looks down to see a large gathering of family and friends. Someone who must have touched the hearts of many. Tears flow freely. A tall Lady faints and a few nearby rush over to help her up. As they do a purse falls to the ground and upon impact throws out a small photograph. A picture of a young child smiling, holding her mother’s hand. In the other hand she clutches a small teddy bear…and in that hand is a small vessel, a ship. The letter “B” stitched into its clothing.
A teddy bear entrusted with the task of looking after the dreams of a little girl..
