A 39-year-old man has been jailed for sending an “utterly deplorable” email to safeguarding minister Jess Phillips, one day after she was criticised by X owner Elon Musk. The Crown Prosecution Service said the email to Ms Phillips was sent on January 2 2025, one day after Mr Musk said the MP “deserves to be in prison” for denying requests to the Home Office for a public inquiry into child sexual exploitation in Oldham.

He was sentenced to 28 weeks in prison.

Looks like our labour gov is taking is taking no risks. Any descence and off to jail you go !!!

By filling up the prisons with the "far right" leads to less space for other criminals. No wonder no one feels safe under labour.

The Tory regime introduced the Online Safety Act in 2023. This gave UK courts more sentencing power to deal with online abuse in general and on other mediums such as email. These new powers included an automatic custodial sentence, or a longer custodial sentence, depending on the severity of the offence.

Sweet FA to do with the current Labour government and sweet FA to do with Starmer.

Jack Bennett admitted sending a threatening, abusive email to Jess Phillips. An offensive, abusive email to Matt Twist, the assistant commissioner at the Met Police, and two racist, abusive messages to Sadiq Khan.

A systematic pattern of abuse courtesy of a 39-year-old middle-aged man, and which left these three (high profile) people fearing for their personal safety and particularly Phillips after the murder of the Labour MP Jo Cox.

I mean, you would have to be incredibly stupid anyway to target those three in particular but especially a high ranking police officer, right?

Bennet was extremely lucky to receive such a trivial sentence, taking into account the sentences handed out to the recent rioters.

These kinds of men believe that they are untraceable, and therefore untouchable. If I had been the magistrate, I certainly would have banged him up for a minimum of two years (the maximum allowed under current guidelines). :)

On this site, we (the grown-ups) were warning about the Draconian legislation curtailing civil liberties that the Tories introduced while they were still in power, this particular piece of legislation doesn't fall into that category.

Unfortunately, a minority of men (incels and misogynists) still believe that they are entitled to stalk, harass and or abuse women (and public figures) online from behind the relative safety of their computer screens.

This custodial sentence sends out a strong message to those cowards that there is no hiding place. :)

You have to question why men of a certain age, from a bygone era, still believe that they are entitled to bully, harass and or abuse women irrespective of whether it is online or not.

This legislation will go someways to tackle this issue and hopefully the current government, who claim that they are determined to clamp down on this kind of abuse (and abuse in general), send out a strong message by fully supporting the judiciary.

You simply can not educate the ignorant with reasoned argument, that ship has long sailed, and unfortunately custodial sentences are the only viable option. :)

I'm still confused about Sadiq Khan sexual orientation..............

But its worrying you cant call an elected official names without going to jail.

What I do find funny is Jess Phillips spoke about rape in Westminster.....but stay silence on grooming gangs near her own constituency.

He should have pleaded Not Guilty, he might have been cleared by a jury. Some of the people who posted online during the riots over the Southport murders didn't buckle under the pressure to plead guilty. They took it to trial and were cleared by sensible juries.

These kinds of men despise Jess Phillips simply because she is the current minister for tackling violence against women and girls and domestic violence.

Another example of the horrendous abuse female MPs are subjected to in the UK is the case of Tony Eckersle. Sent to prison for 28 months in 2021 after a campaign of the most foul abuse and threats to kill against Jess Phillips when she was the shadow minister for safeguarding.

Under the Tory regime...

There is also a common theme with this type of man, low status, none of them are young men, and this particular man was 52.

During sentencing, the judge summed up eloquently.

"Eckersley was an “inadequate man” who “cannot cope with the reality of having reached your 50s without ever really achieving much save for a habit of sitting at your keyboard venting your frustration at others”. :)

Jess Phillips wont bite the hand that feeds her.

There a lot of questions Jess Phillips needs to answer. This woman been a MP for over 10 years and been under investigation over declaration of interests in the past.

She not Snow White

So to summarise, according to the far-right, these online odd jobs are entitled to issue threats of rape or violence against female MPs, politicians in general and also police officers.

Because it's only words on a screen, right?

It's clearly just a Labour government conspiracy to silence free speech, and even though it is Tory legislation that convicted Bennet. :)

Edited. It was also Tory legislation that convicted the Southport rioters but don't let the facts get in the way of far-right conspiracy theories.

I cant understand giving the harm cause by grooming gangs, its taken so long for an inquiry.
For me this echo's the paedophiles inquiry's of the 1990's: Police and government slow to act even after mounting public pressure.

What is feeding the far right at the moment is the governments failer to deport convicted paedophiles and rapist's.
The unwillingness to investigate encase it causes tensions with some immigrate communities.

And Jess Phillips was one of those people who refused an investigation into this matter.

Here is the definition of tacit approval:

Tacit approval is when someone agrees or endorses something without explicitly saying so. It can also mean when someone's actions or behaviors are unchallenged, which implies consent.

I feel too many Police officers have looked the other way due to politically correctness and communities relations back up by local MP's.

This topic is obviously extremely important to Fred because he has made multiple threads about it.

What started off as a claim freedom of speech is being denied by a government, only in power for a few months, has quickly evolved into another rant about immigrants.

There has been a recent "full inquiry" into grooming gangs, and paedophilia in general, that took seven years and cost £188 million under the previous Tory regime, and Fred appears to be completely oblivious about this.

The findings were obviously not to far-right critics liking, simply because the inquiry found that white grooming gangs are responsible for the vast majority of sexual offences against children, and which therefore does not feed into far-right narrative that only "uneducated third world immigrants" are responsible.

The far-right appear to be only concerned about this issue when the perpetrators are immigrants.

I have emailed my local MP and local councillors on numerous occasions over the years, too many times to count, but not once have the police turned up at my door and threatened to bang me for them.

Normal people don't tend to send abusive emails or message female politicians and threaten to rape them, or threaten them with physical violence, or even threaten to murder them

I can't stand Jess Phillip's political ideology (overthrowing Corbyn) however she has only been a politician since 2015, in opposition, yet the far-right seems to be obsessed with her personally rather than the previous government responsible who were in power for 14 years. :)

Kev I see no anger from you on this issue.

You cant seem to understand why the emails were sent or why jailing someone for it was wrong.

I wonder how many careers need end before an investigation gets under way?

Or will it be like Jimmy Savile

It was an open open secret at the time and he was protected to save careers in the Police and BBC.

I wonder how many councilors knew and became MP's are doing the same now?

I am not angry at all, 'Fred', it is in fact you who keeps posting threads about this topic. Your argument never evolves, you have never taken the time to educate yourself, and you just rant about immigrants.

Now that I have pulled you up for it, you have now brought Jimmy Saville into it despite not making a single thread about Jimmy Saville previously.

You are predictable.

You are obsessed with immigrants and still appear to be ignorant that threatening to rape or beat up female MPs is very likely to lead to a custodial sentence, and all while you make excuse upon excuse for men that do.
