When I was a kid we were so poor...

I always thought I was working-class till I met up with an old school friend the other day. After seeing how she lived I realised I'm now lower-middle class. But it got me thinking... and I'll start you all off with a couple...

When I was a kid we were so poor...
1. We had to paint our feet black so it loooked like we had shoes.
2. When there was a knock at the door we had to bark because we'd eaten the dog.

I was so poor.......... I only got a new bike when the postman wasn't looking.
We only got fresh milk when the milk float got a flat tire.
And my Dad would only let us having the coal fire on when he was home. He was a long distance lorry driver.

Fire, the only time we had a fire is when one of our neighbours fell asleep with a cig in their hand.
Poverty, you have no idea, worked down the pit, 26 hours of the day.
A shoe box, a luxury.

You got a shoe box?
My shoes came from children's hospital, well they didn't need them being in bed all day.

We were so poor I only when to school one day per week. With 5 kids living in one shed and only one school uniform between us, we had to take it in turns wearing it.

Oh no that’s terrible some people are living in rubble and no home or shelter

We did as kids, people seem to forget how many places weren't rebuild after the war until the late 80's. Some were never rebuilt and are parks now. The focus seemed to be on rebuilding London first and the rest of us had to wait.

Young people today seem to forget how bad things were.

They should teach us this at school but they don’t. We are programmed to donate money to other countries in need lol

No one gave us money after the war.......it was so bad we only had one bed and the dog wouldn't let anyone else use it

I was so poor as a kid, a school dinner was tin of baked beans. We all got one bean each
