I was asked about this before my last ban and couldn't post a reply:eek:

I had a water rower for 3 months and it kept giving me a sore back, I return it in the end. and got this one:

JLL® Ventus 3 Air Resistance Home Rowing Machine

That is not me in the vid but I did watch it before I ordered a replacement. And I agree with what this man is saying.

Yes its a cheaper version of the concept 2 rowing machine you can find in most gyms. Don't get me wrong the concept 2 is the best on the market but at over a grand, well for the 5 hours per week I use it for its overkill. If the water flat I wont use it at all, Ill be out paddling.

The thing about rowing is...... you need to do it all year round. There no "body shaping", you will look at the same at the end of year of use. They don't flatten the belly or build up your shoulders. If paddle sports build up the shoulders, I'd be build like a brick sh1thouse and not a rolly polly chubby little "person". Its all about aerobic exercise/ endurance training.

When used the gym I saw people jump on a concept 2 rowing machine and hammer it for an hour. You'd never do that on a kayak so why do it on a rowing machine? You just need a nice steady pace, your not in the boat race.

The only one I'd recommend for those who dont paddle like me is DOMYOS 4.4 Folding Rowing Machine 100.

Its priced about right, folds up and good for about 2 hours per week. That's all you really need. Don't worry about levels of resistance or app's, this is all about endurance. And on a real kayak you cant increase the resistance, you can get a bigger paddle but unless your in the surf you wont need it.

And I will say this again, if you want a flat belly, change your diet. Stop buying crap;)

I knew posting this thread would be the kiss of death

My JLL® Ventus 3 Air Resistance Home Rowing Machine broke and is gone back due to poor welding
Its not that old too and was still under guaranty. It only took me 4 days of moaning to amazon.

I've just ordered a Domyos self powered rowing machine 500b for £350 in sale

If this one falls, I'll splash the cash and get a Concept 2o_O

Everytime you get banned do you say to yourself "I'll be back"? And when you come off your rowing m/c do you say "Ooohh me back"? :)

To be honest, I dont mind the bans, they give me a "forced break" from the site. It's nice

The rowing machine..... I dont hurt that much., my arms may ankle later in the day if I push it too hard. I'm nowhere close to being a "pro" rower, rowing like I'd paddle my kayak. ... nice and slow.

If I'm off the water for a few days my form drops and struggle in surf. And that's the fun bit for me, I do love a nice 2-3 foot sea swell. Riding the waves being throw around by the element's:)
