Updating one's status.

I don't really know what it means, but it seems a very popular activity. I'm in a strange position regarding "social media". I hope that's the right term. I'm curious what all the terms mean, but I don't want to know what they mean; or at least I don't want to admit I know what they mean. I'm quite an honest person, so I don't think I could deny knowing if it wasn't true, which puts me in a bit of a dilemma. Should I abandon my principles and acquaint myself with the terminology, or should I remain ignorant and be plagued by curiosity?

Updating one's status? I just treat mine as a blog. As for social media, the confusion starts with the nomenclature. I wouldn't concern yourself with it if I were you, just embrace your online experience alongside your real life.
