Scunthorpe steel works been nationalized in all but name.

Personally I'm invested in this, my family were involved at Corby and a few took jobs at Scunthorpe after they closed it down. Many years of my childhood were spent on picket lines with my Dad and uncles. If they hadn't closed the steel works at Corby, I would have follow in their footsteps like so many others family members.

The real question is why now after steel production been brought to its knees over the last 30?

The government arguing "defense", without a steel manufacturing base we cant build weapon's. There only one real problem with his argument, we have no air defense systems.

“The Military Balance, 2022”, published by the International Institute for Strategic Studies, at the start of 2022 14 Rapier FSC systems remained in active British service, with an unknown number in storage. 57 of the systems had been produced for both the British Army and the Royal Air Force in total.

The UK has approximately six Sky Sabre ground-based air defense systems in service. However, at least two of these systems are deployed overseas, in the Falkland Islands and Poland. This leaves a limited number available for defending the UK mainland.

Lets just think about this, we have 14 rapiers and few Sky Sabre's to cover the whole of the UK. Its a bit worrying. Now you'd think living on a island with a land mass of 94,354 square miles we'd have a few more. I feel 20 jets could wipe out our air defense in 60 mins.

But what about the air force?

The Royal Air Force (RAF) and other branches of the UK armed forces have a total of 564 fixed-wing aircraft. Of these, 137 are Eurofighter Typhoon jets and 34 are Lockheed Martin F-35B Lightning II jets.

They wont last long.

The government argument "defense" is pointless. We have no real defense in the UK and government's not investing in air defense's systems. The steel works at Scunthorpe could be bombed out of action in a few hours. Its right on the coast !!

Before we start throwing billons at saving production plants, lets spend more on saving what we have now.

Now I'm off to find an second hand Anderson shelter on ebay, I feeling I'm going to need one

How much coal will this steel plant need? We're not allowed to mine for coal in this country, but I think it'll be ok, we can import coal from Japan.
