Would you be happier in the Blitz? Take the quiz

ration book.jpg

Think things were better in the old days?

Feel nostalgic for a time you didn’t live through?

Find out if you would have been happier living through the Blitz.

How do you feel about returning to the office?

A) Mildly annoyed, mainly because I work in a stressful, underpaid job with total arseholes.

B) Fine. I’m bravely back at my desk. I wish there were some doodlebugs exploding, though. That sounds exciting.

Should we bring back rationing?
A) With all the supply chain issues still going on it might stop pricks panic buying.

B) Absolutely. Living on four ounces of cooking fat and one egg per week would solve this country’s obesity crisis in a matter of months.

How do you feel about Europe?
A) I’m surprised they even talk to us after years of acting like total dicks.

B) The whole continent’s gone to hell in a handbasket and needs us plucky Brits to step in and sort it out again, just like on D-Day.

You’ve had a shlt day, what do you do?
A) Complain to my partner who will half listen while scrolling on their phone and occasionally go ‘oh right’.

B) Bottle up my emotions while stoically remembering a hardship I didn’t endure. Or cheer myself up by humming ‘We’re Going to Hang Out the Washing on the Siegfried Line’.

What does ‘Blitz spirit’ mean to you?
A) It increasingly sounds like propaganda to make you go along with our daft, self-inflicted modern problems without whingeing.

B) It’s a patriotic, morale-boosting attitude that doesn’t suggest a weird obsession with the events of 75 years ago that other countries don’t have.

ANSWERS

Mostly As:
You haven’t drunk the Blitz Kool-Aid, meaning you weirdly don’t want to return to a time of nightly bombing raids and unprecedented misery. Watch more war films, the less realistic the better.

Mostly Bs: In your opinion, the Blitz was the highlight of human history and if you had a time machine you’d live there permanently. You’d probably think Anderson Shelters were ‘elf ‘n’ safety gone mad’, though.

Would i be happier? No, i would be absolutely miserable. It would upset my state of comfort and complacency. Do i see benefits of experiencing hardship? Yes. I think it provides us with an appreciation of the things that matter or are important to us. We take our own personal health for granted. We eat too much and do not exercise as much as we should. I think we're actually becoming unhealthier as time goes by.
But we as humans aren't designed to live in comfort and complete safety. I've noticed a lot of natural disasters as an example of humans being at their best when things are at their worst. People will come together to help others out because of the situation at hand.

Having said that, given the choice, i prefer my complacency and comfort, so A for me.

I dont know if anyone has read the history but the Blitz only happened to the major Cities ,such as London,Coventry ,Birmingham ,etc. Out in the sticks we had the odd German bomber lose it`s way and usually crash near Town ! A few of the unused bombs were dropped nearby but as the Lutwaffe didn`t know who they were bombing most of them missed ,lol Apart from that it was business as usual but we had Ration Books up until about 1952 or 53. I can claim to have lived through the Blitz but not as an adult .
We had blackout curtains to ! but some idiots just ignored them and left lights on !. Sounds a bit like today`s Anto Covid clan :). Deny it`s happening and it will go away.
btw ,my choice would be A as the sciences are much more interesting .

Where I live in Yorkshire...There are streets littered with gaps in them...Where the bombs hit the houses. My Grandfather was blown from his outside toilet right over the house and landed on his back.! Almost killed him..But it didn't kill him, he got up and dusted himself down and lit his pipe.

In the 60's and 70's we regularly had 'Black Outs'.

Old Rover biscuit Tin full of Candles at the ready. Ha..!

The generation we have now need to wake up...NOT Woke up.

Very good reply. The biggest thing that folks often forget is that we are ANIMALS. Exactly as You say....WE aren't designed to live in shoe boxes.

We are designed to REPRODUCE and HUNT for food... Nothing else matters biologically.

Love / marriage etc isn't a good thing for us and is a manifestation of Modern life.

I personally Love NO ONE. And I hope no one loves ME. When I die there will be no tears. When you Die i will not cry.

Lets just re-frame those a little for fun. :)

How do you feel about returning to the office?
A) Mildly annoyed, mainly because I work in a stressful, underpaid job with total arseholes.

B) Fine. Even though I work in a stressful, underpaid job with total arseholes, we know that working from home is detrimental to mental health long term.

Should we bring back rationing?
A) With all the supply chain issues still going on it might stop pricks panic buying.

B) Nope and I'm not really in favour of the WEF's ideas of eating insect burgers because Cows produce to much "Gas"

How do you feel about Europe?
A) I’m surprised they even talk to us after years of acting like total dicks.

B) The whole continent’s gone to hell in a handbasket, I mean if Brussels lifted the licensing hold ups on Nordstream 2 we wouldn't have a gas problem.

You’ve had a shlt day, what do you do?
A) Complain to my partner who will half listen while scrolling on their phone and occasionally go ‘oh right’.

B) Bottle up my emotions while stoically remembering a hardship I didn’t endure. Whilst being thankful for those who did so we have the life we do today.

What does ‘Blitz spirit’ mean to you?
A) It increasingly sounds like propaganda to make you go along with our daft, self-inflicted modern problems without whingeing.

B) It’s total BS, the Crime Rate was at it's highest ever recorded during the Blitz. At the time though, much like the NHS propaganda we see today, it served a purpose.

Mostly Bs: You read actual news and have a knowledge of history.

To save any confusion, I am so pleased that you didn't even have to resort to an iota of philosophy or Latin. ;)

Me to.
To be honest, Latin is my number 2 langauge, as in I speak it out of my ass.
As you noted in your other post, which i disagree with as pseudo-polyglots tend to become pseudo-polygloats.

As for philosophy, Im not drunk enough yet.

Satire is simply those who attempt to show life as comedy or ideology.
Complexity of thought, of reason is why we are the species we are today.

When we have a tap on the wall that can give us clean water on demand.
A radiater on the wall that gives us heat, a bulb which gives us light.

We seem to forget that humour, like so many things is a luxury we can afford.
That most of our problems are simply idealogical, 1st world problems.

1st world, the arrogance, the ignorance.
Are we not all human beings?
Or are we just a satirical parody of progress, the haves and the have nots?

A comedy of errors perhaps.

Misunderstanding a satirical post as serious then backpedalling an 'artisan excuse' is hilarious.

A hattrick of men getting uppity about satire is a wonderous thing indeed.
