Great post. In the first picture you can see the effect of 'Gravitational Lensing'.

(A gravitational lens is a distribution of matter between a distant light source and an observer, that is capable of bending the light from the source as the light travels towards the observer.)

Here we can see the Aptly named 'Butthole' Nebula. With a Black hole in it's centre.
