WITH rising petrol prices adding to the cost of living crisis, an insane scheme to ‘tax the rich’ has been put forward by fringe economists.

The government has been struggling to keep cutting corporation tax while taking more money from low earners but making sure they do not die from hunger and are unable to do their jobs.

Economist Stephen Malley said: ‘When a nation needs to raise money for something, all you can do is close some hospitals or increase National Insurance. There are literally no other options.

“That was until I had the idea of taxing the rich more. I’m the first to admit it’s probably unworkable but it might just be worth taking that one-in-a-trillion chance.

“I contacted the Treasury to suggest making rich people pay a bit more, and they told me to f**k off. I could hear laughing in the background. But at least they’re considering it.”

However, government economist Norman Steele said: “Asking a small minority of super-rich people give up a tiny fraction of their ludicrous wealth to alleviate the misery of millions and improve the societal conditions on which we all depend is just naive sixth-form idealism.

“As we all know, if you take so much as an extra 50p they’ll become hopelessly demotivated and stop being brilliant wealth creators. We depend on these business visionaries to run our betting chains and rip-off privatised utilities.

“Plus it will lead to the most extreme form of Stalin-style communism. The wealthy will all leave to go to France where tax is higher. And the IRA will be back and probably a plague of locusts or something. That’s just Economics 101.”

Or just stop the government borrowing money they can't pay back, like most of us normal people do, spend what you have not what you want.

Since its the rich, who own most of everything that's causing the cost of living to rise is this not a waste of time? It is also the wealthy who are in government and they are not going to do anything to help. Its just a vicious circle, you tax the rich they increase the prices so they earn even more, the only people who pay and suffer are the poor, every single time.

Sir Keir, has somewhat bizarrely claimed New New Labour has been 'reinvented' as the party of the 'working class'. Although (doh Sir Dopey) that is exactly how and why Labour was originally founded, constitutionally set in stone, and hence Union and paid-up member sources for funding, etc. Blair pissed on the traditional working class from a great height and given the once in a lifetime opportunity, the EU referendum, they sent back their own message in return. Two fingers of getting the fukc out of the EU!

Labour has always been a divided party, a broad church, veering between left and right and everything else in between but ideological differences were settled internally and (not always successfully) out of sight.

During the leadership contest and after deceitfully running on that "broad church" ticket, Keith stated "‘We are not going to trash the last Labour government… nor are we going to trash the last four years.’ just before he spent the next two and a half years doing just that, trashing Corbyn and his supporters with FAKE allegations of antisemitism and other spurious lies.

We will have an idea next month after the local elections if Sir Keir's vision for the party, whatever that might be, even he hasn't got a clue himself, is resonating with voters and particularly in the former Red Wall. Sir Keir and his focus groups led by Lord Mandelson appear to believe the party does not need the left-wing nor Scotland to win the next general election.

Scotland is gone, independence beckons and 52 Brexit voting Red Wall seats voted for Boris and his get Brexit done promise. Do those people really trust Sir Keir now and despite Sir Keir being the Brexit Minister who persuaded Corbyn to renegade on his pledge to honour the referendum result. Which had come so close to victory in 2017, within 2,000 votes for a Corbyn led minority government, and despite the unprecedented vicious establishment campaign to vilify Corbyn and his supporters. Will Tory voters themselves even vote New New Labour in enough numbers to put them in power?

I am repeating myself but thousands of left-wing labour members have been purged from the party, local CLP members have been resigning in droves, the big guns on the left, the likes of Laura Pidcock, have resigned from the NEC. These are the same people who do all the hard graft, the organization, the pavement pounding, delivering leaflets, delivering Labours' message to normal people in the street.

As yet more Unions cut funding to the party and fee-paying members are either purged or leave on their own accord, leaving a party that inherited a 13 million surplus perilously close to bankruptcy, I am not so sure chanting "we are not Corbyn" over and over again is an election-winning strategy.

The multi-millionaire and billionaire donors in business Lord Mandelson is courting, the Rees Moggs of this world, have not emerged in any great numbers and yet New New Labour would still have us believe they will handle the economy more efficiently than the Tories while still pledging to mirror Tory fiscal policy (more austerity). New New Labour can't even handle the finances of their own damn party.

I 100% agree, the likes of Rees Mogg and Rishi Sunak are first-class c*nts, c*nts of the highest order. Even more so when you understand exactly how they accrued that vast wealth. The problem is, however, the bulk of New New Labour careerist MPs aspires to be just like them. I won't be voting for Sir Keir and no one I know will be voting for him, which leaves us on the 'true' left in no man's land because there is currently no credible left-wing alternative in a rigged FPTP electoral system.

Sir Keir may well win the next election if the Tories make the mistake of clinging onto the wholly inept and ludicrous Boris. The establishment like to give the illusion of choice in a not so democratic society. However, these actions are responsible for long term trends, that will further destroy the Labour husk that remains and the parasitical careerists that have infested it will rejoice if and when that happens and that is, of course, the main aim of the existing establishment. Keep the proletariat in their place with cheap food and consumerism, keep the bulk of wealth trickling upwards and carry on endorsing the state-sanctioned "socialism" that subsidizes corporate business and the global economy.

lots of almost emotive comments and clear to see genuine real interest and thrust in politics. however no party is really fit for purpose and practically all MP's are either self rewarding ( in it for the power and money) or at odds with mainstream voters. Many voters do not see a party with clear morals and interests of country or indeed their best interests and welfare at heart. Labour nearly bankrupted Uk and has never even off the record apologised even an iota. Tories are outwardly seen and with reason ...to be there to make money for selves. expenses are quietly agreed by a parlimentary committee and run into millions with to the man in the street outrageous payments and claims! second homes etc average person in street is too busy with life and trying to get by to get involved in politics and votes generally for a nam they recognise or like or a party they think will do least damage to them or country. Falklands for example where Labour if in power would simply have abandoned the islanders to their fate of being conquered. At least we are trying to assist Ukraine in its moment of need even if limited. I used to vote Labour as a young man but over time as I discovered more about the party and its aims etc I have even voted against it and am more of a floating voter these days trying to see what party will be best is hard to decide. Ideally ALL Mp's ought to publish expenses claims and voting in local library. An idea that was put forward to my MP many years ago. I was lucky in that I did get a response..reading between the lines was a polite way of saying go forth and multiply! Uk was very split over EU and essentially though most agreed idea of a united Europe working with each other was good the fact it was not fully democratic or accountable to voters plus a few very odd ideas (such as straight bananas ) and unfair policies etc ( try looking up where EU paid companies in UK to leave and set up in 'poor areas in other countries -with UK having to 'pay' its share of costs doing it) and we can see why many in Uk became disillusion about EU and its aims. It was intent for example on removing Uk ability to vote against things 'it' saw as a great new policy but was against Uk interests or what its population wanted . don't even get started on immigration!

Higher taxes on the rich = capital flight.

Not rocket science, if they can pay less tax by transfering thier money to another country with lower taxes, they will.

It's a well known fact, the higher the tax rate, the less you get.

Much better to have an acceptable tax rate compared to other countries, then you keep the currency in your own country where it can actually be used.

Economics 101.

Much better way in my opinion.

Just put a 0.01% tax on all corperate banking transactions.

That would raise billions.
