What happened to the wall? Didn't Trump get the planning through?

Yes, build that wall! If only we could build one in the middle of the English channel I'd gladly contribute to the cost. Oh, and block off the Channel Tunnel while we're at it. Call me an isolationist, if that's even a word, where's MrWicked when you need him? he'd know.

I'd like a wall across the middle of England, keep those damn southerners at bay.

Strange ideas they have. :)

Well if us in the North could have our own little parliament, we might make out as well as Northern Ireland has.
After all the head of their new government is Sinn Fein, the political wing of the IRA.
Looks like the terrorists won.

Sounds pretty good, forgive all the crimes commited by the IRA and yet prosecute English squaddies, fecking Blair.

Oops rant, sowwy.

I think that's a bloody great idea. Give me your bank account details and we'll start a fund.
I am also pleased to confirm that isolationist IS a word and aptly describes how many of us feel about the 'invasion' of this sceptered isle.
Actually, it could increase the manufacturing capacity of the country and reduce the unemployment statistics too.
Now, let's look for a proficient supplier of the materials we will need.

How about YOU get a job?...That would reduce the unemployment statistics.

Wouldn't it?

Racists livid after learning that Stonehenge was built by Turkish immigrants

Far right morons, Cuntservatives, Lee Anderthal and Ray Cyst, are all throwing a wobbly today after learning that Stonehenge was constructed by immigrants.

Scientific human origins researchers at Oxford University compared DNA extracted from Neolithic human remains found in Britain with that of people alive at the same time in Europe, and found that inhabitants travelled from Anatolia (modern Turkey) to Iberia before winding their way north to Britain.

Racist followers of a new Popular Conservative group have been raging and ranting about it this morning, bellowing loudly, “We’ve always said that Europeans have been coming over here, staying for free in 1st class caves, getting free meals, and stealing British workers’ jobs, this has clearly been going on for six thousand years.''

“I bet there were some honest, hardworking British builders who had given a quote for Stonehenge, only be undercut by this European lot, who doubtless delivered the project three weeks ahead of schedule and at half the cost. The bastards.”

PopCon Party contender Liz Untruss-Twurthee added, “One manifesto pledge of the PopCon party will be to tear down this monument to European bureaucracy and replace it with a burger van in a lay-by.

“That’s what you commoners like, right?”

Not now.

You were stuck for something to do, weren't you, and you thought, 'hang on a minute, I could go into the Forums, like I usually do, and make myself look a complete arsehole, as is my wont".
Am I getting warm again?

I think people missed out on the obvious while covid was in play. We could have built a 1.5m radius sphere/bubble around each one of us, and enforced it, so that every individual was separate from everybody else, and couldn't technically bump into one another ever again, as there'd always be a 3 metre gap between us. And imagine the cost savings as instead of having to catch a train or something, we just roll down hills, and join links and attach to ONE form of transport to go up them.

We literally would have been in our own little worlds.

Isolationist also means self relience.
Not in the same way that Germany 1939 Anschlutz (Spelling) lol, which was expansionist and needed to defeat and thus rob other countries of their resourses.

As in growing our own food, not relying on other nations to do it.
Which was fine during the globalist era, but now, we are entering a post globalist world.
Top level fear and the economic failures are bringing down the idea that global trade is still viable.

If one has a vibrant economy, then imports and exports can flourish.
When ones economy stagnates, as most have in the "West" then luxuries become less important as inflation dictates more spending on necessary goods rather than desirable ones.

The USA is in a much better position than the UK and the EU as they produce a hell of a lot more than we do "In House"

But the USA has a larger problem with its commercial properties problem.
We in the UK will have the same problem, but it's more localised around London.
Banks financed huge loans for development of commercial properties, which after COVID and the "Work from home" policies have killed the market in office spaces, are now getting due.
In the USA this will hit harder, but we wont be exempt.

How is this linked to close the borders?

Well a few examples..
Council tax costing hasn't been updated for decades If I remember right, could be wrong.
So the bandings are all off.

So the North, who have nominally lost property values are paying more than the more prosperous South.
Are now paying more that they should.

So.
The basis of council tax is property values.
If property values fluctuate, which they do by market supply and demand, then so does council tax, or it should.

Instead, we are seeing a rise in council tax in the North because of "Inflation"
Yet we also have a major housing crisis.
Because :-
1. The major building companies, many of whom are foreign owned, now own huge areas of land which they bought and have not built upon, thereby driving up the cost of housing to their benefit.
2. Immigration is taking those few houses that are being built away from young people wishing to get on the property ladder. Because immigrants are being "Migrated" North and thus driving up prices due to lack of available private or social housing paid for by government.

Lets move on to education, this is an opposite, but yet relevent.
The fee's for Uni education is capped at 9250 quid a year, yet, due to inflation it costs over 11k a year to actually educate someone at Uni.
Hence there has been a massive influx of foreign students into the UK because the Uni's adopted a BBC grade rather than an AAA grade acceptance of A level equivelents for foreign students.

Now the government has passed legislation to prevent dependents from following a student, which has meant a rapid drop in overseas students, hence the Uni's, one of the things we are good at, are losing money hand over fist.
Foreign students paid roughly 20000 a year for their education.

In this case, we are losing out because of immigration cut backs, but it does mean the Uni's have to take in more native students.
But native students are a net loss, so they have to start cutting courses.

What happens if a Uni goes bankrupt, well there is a long standing agreement that they would just merge with another local Uni.
However if there is a cascade effect, then Uni's in the UK will cease to exist as we know them.

It's a very complex question with no simple answers.

Without even addressing the idea that we have an aging population and not enough younger tax payers to actually afford pensions and have to kick the debt down the road.

Thats just a tip of a very deep iceberg that says yes immigration is a good thing, which it is, but it also causes major problems economically, culturally, demographically and socially, which it also does if not handled correctly.

It's not a simple question of "Should we close the borders" without asking what type of immigrants are we closing the borders to.
