Another thread reminded me of an incident at a party few years ago. An awfully nice chap had drank too much and collapsed asleep on the sofa. A couple of partygoers thought it would be funny to shave this chap's eyebrows off. Despite my valiant efforts to place myself between this chap and those two (word of choice :)) they succeeded... That poor sod had to go into work the next day with no eyebrows.

Any other deplorable incidents? feel free to share....

That's mean, some people go too far.
I have seen men be grotesquely made up when they are asleep...but that washes off.

I can't think of anything deplorable that I've witnessed whilst at a party/night out, but I will keep thinking.
My memory sometimes needs a nudge (lol)

Maybe I was going to the wrong parties or maybe the people involved weren't drunk enough :D
You need to go to Boris Parties at number 10. I hear they are good fun ,especially when you can break the Laws to have them !

I wonder how Boris got access to parties at number 10?

Did you know he has already been moved to a Cat C prison? This would not happen to a 'normal' prisoner in such a short time. Clearly, there is one rule for the rich and famous (although Boris pissed his fortune against a wall) compared to the average jailbird.

I remember one incident.
I wasn't at the party. We were staying at a hotel in Spain. The staff had a leaving do for one of the waiters.
Apparently, lots of alcohol was consumed, some of the staff decided to go for a swim in the sea, one of the waiters drowned.

It left a horrible aura over the hotel, and the holiday, even though we didn't know the lad involved.

At an AOL bash, I didn't go to this one, but I heard about it, was held in some old Victorian hotel, which had a huge winding staircase with a lovely wooden banister. One chap thought it would be great fun to slide down it. So he did, head first, and hit the ornate wooden post at the bottom of it, knocking his two front teeth out. When he came into the chat room the following week, I asked him why he did it. he replied something like "That's what you do at bashes"

Hence why i never went to any bashes ! . I also read in a chatroom after a bash that the nephew of one member got into a scrap with another member and had teeth knocked out.

Fights are often the outcome of too much booze, be it at a party, a wedding, or God forbid a funeral.

One fight that happened outside a Manchester club was horrendous.
The club owner, a nice man, was helping the doorman evict a trouble causer, a fight ensued, the man actually bit a chunk of the nose off the club owner. The staff were looking in the gutter outside of the club to see if they could find it.

I'm not sure if it was reattached, but the man was left badly scarred.

Just one reason i quit drinking many years ago. I think the Arabs( Muslim ? or whatever religion they are) have the right idea . Smoking through a special filter is ok but alcohol is banned . From tiny snippets i see on the news lately we could be heading that way . The sooner the better in my opinion. Just look at the football louts for examples .

I would not look to socially backward countries for any tips on how to live a peaceful life.
Alcohol is the cause for a lot of trouble though, that's for sure.

Football louts, and people with that mentality, would cause trouble with or without the booze.
People with an addictive personality would find something as bad, even worse, if they couldn't get hold of alcohol.
However, just as with certain drugs, there will always be a way to get it, even if it was banned, ....which it won't be.

Ever wondered why these countries are 'socially backward', as you put it?

Alcohol is not the cause, it's just a means of escapism.
It stems much deeper than that.

Same goes for drugs.

Some can handle either/both, without causing any harm to themselves or others.
Having said that, I am in no way promoting one or the other.

True

That is where the problem lies.
Why do they have an addictive personality?
What caused it?
And can it be resolved, instead of escaping from it?

True, but it won't solve their problems.

I can sense this thread becoming very long and winded and I'm not sure I have the energy/inclination to give it a go.

I'm pretty sure someone else will appear and do so, though :)
I believe that Drink /Driving has been proven to cause more accidents .due to the affects of Alcohol.
Also i am sure it causes more damage to a domestic problem , Alcohol yet again !

Anyone who attempts to say that countries which do not allow Alcohol are "uncivilised are obviously drunk as they type it !.

I'm laughing at this because Bad_Influence laughs at everything you type in the Forum.
I'm wondering if you have EVER 'liked' anything that he has posted.
You two must have the longest-standing love-hate relationship in Chat.

Alcohol is a source of pleasure for many more.
The vast majority of people use it to socialise, relax, have fun, it's an enjoyable experience to share a glass of wine with family and friends.

I don`t need alcohol to relax and others shouldn`t either .
" relaxing " to most Brits means getting pisssed as a newt .:)
