Yes I take your point which is why I try to explain/educate people rather than shut them down as you say...but with some people is there any point? I'm not sure someone in the BNP or EDL or whatever they call themselves these days has an open mind to be persuaded.

The EDL and the BNP did not always agree on the issue of race. I supported the EDL under Stephen Lennon (alias Tommy Robinson), and helped him get signatures to prosecute child groomers who raped young girls. That does not make me a closed-minded racist. My mind was open enough to hear the EDL without preconceived judgement. I didn't simply assume that race was their concern. Just read white-nationalist sites like Stormfront. You will read posts there which condemn the EDL because of its membership criteria. The EDL accepted people of all races and sexual orientations. There were gay, Jewish, Hindu, Sikh and LGBT divisions of the EDL. Even peaceful Muslims could join. Stephen Lennon burned the Nazi flag, and did what he could to cleanse the movement of Neo-Nazis and the National Front. He was even arrested for punching a Nazi who attended an EDL gathering. I believe the EDL's concern was fundamentalist Islam, not race. Unfortunately, I fear the movement has changed under new leadership.

Race was always the BNP's concern. They were legally compelled to change their admission policy to accept non-white members. Many of its members were former Nazis. Others expressed sympathy for Nazism and Adolf Hitler.

Not that anyone would have been right to trust the EDL or Stephen Lennon. Even Stephen Lennon seems to have changed. And certainly no one should trust me. I think wojcik was right. This is no excuse to ignore someone's point, but there are unconscious forces at work in most of us. One concept I encountered in my research of the far-right was "white flight." Correlation does not equal causation, but the figures I read seemed suggestive. Even if groups like EDL under Stephen Lennon are right about Islam, does that make them white as snow?

I see patriotic groups and individuals like the EDL and Tommy Robinson collapsing into ethno-nationalism. I believe the masks are now falling. People are turning to more extreme solutions. Ideas are no longer the issue. The focus has changed to people. And while the far-right is ascendant throughout Europe, politicians like Anne Marie Waters (who now talks about race) and internet personalities like Tommy Robinson and Lauren Southern (now an ethno-nationalist herself), who are followed by hundreds of thousands, provide a bridge between the average person and extreme far-right movements. These people are connected with groups like the alt-right and Generation Identity, whose leader, Martin Sellner, seems to support the German NPD (research them). And so long as fundamentalist Islam supplies the far-right a surfeit bodies and rapes, and the far-right are the only ones who provide a "solution", they have inexhaustible fuel. I think people who care about racism have more than words like "chink" to worry about. I see a potential ethnic-cleansing on the horizon.

I believe in the defence and protection of our country for and by all citizens, which now makes me a militant

Please help me come to terms with the new me... because I'm just not sure who I am anymore

I would like to thank all my friends for sticking with me through these abrupt, new found changes in my life and my thinking! I just can't imagine or understand what's happened to me so quickly!

Funny... it's all just taken place over the last 7 or 8 years!

As if all this crap wasn't enough to deal with I'm now afraid to go into either toilet !

The word 'Chinks' is often bandied about in that room..in itself a harmless word but when used in connection with 'China' - not so. It takes on a far darker meaning.. It is casual racism make no bones about it and the worst thing is some of the Mods think it's ok to use that word by either saying nothing or in fact censuring anyone who objects to it.
Today in the room with 50 chatters the word 'Chinks' was used in connection with something to do with China but just myself and one other person objected to it.. should we go with the majority and just let it slide? or stand up be counted and say it's wrong?
I accept it's hard to educate people who know no better because that's the way they were brought up so don't know any different but it's a different world these days and certain words can no longer be used. . there's no place for them.
