Brave New World - Aldous Huxley
This novel is regarded as one of the great classics, on a par with Orwell's 1984. Written in 1932, admittedly the book is way ahead of it's time with it's test-tube babies and hypnotic persuasion techniques. It just wasn't a good read, I gave up on it after 40 pages. :(

Any books you've given up on?

A friend gave me this book the other day and I loved the movie so I was really looking forward to reading it. But the entire book seemed to have been written in Scottish slang. I couldn't get past the first few pages.

the idea of government provided recreational drugs and a culture of endless orgies - is unappealing.
But preferable to the brutal, mind-controlling totalitarian state in Orwell's 1984 dystopian future... :)
