Mayonnaise trees on the verge of extinction
Mayonnaise trees are on the verge of extinction, which could have a disastrous effect on the global sandwich industry.
Delicious, creamy mayonnaise is produced by tapping mayonnaise trees – which only grow in perfect conditions.
But climate change and the sheer popularity of mayonnaise has left many of the remaining trees tapped out and new ones are struggling to grow.
“We could be looking at the end of mayonnaise as we know it within just two years. Some might not realise how serious that is but it would have a dire effect on the sandwich industry and tinned tuna would become obsolete overnight.
“Right now, all we can do is sacrifice some indigenous people and pray for a miracle,” said Michael Hellman of Hellman’s Mayonnaise.
People could be forced to switch from mayonnaise to salad cream.
Experts believe that this could be the thing that makes people begin to take climate change seriously.
