I did take this boat out a few times over the last week and had a few issues with me.

My fitness is way down after the winter and almost boiled alive in my wet suit at 18C. I was using my Werner corryvreckan paddle and was moving way too much water for this surf ski. The sea's been flat all week, way too much power.

Had to go back to my trusted old Ainsworth paddle with smaller blades. (Its about a 1/3 of the price of the Werner.) My Kober manhattan was loaned out this week and I should get it back in the morning, I'll try it over the weekend.

Now back to the macski.

I don't like the thigh straps on it and have replacements on order like these.

I like the ones on my pyranha sot fusion and these silly ones that came pre installed aren't as good.

I haven't put foot straps on this ski yet, the sea's too flat for them right now. I find them annoying and mite add them later. (I like paddling in my crocs)

Over all the boat works well. The design is spot on. I've never had a surf ski this stable before. Normally anything with "ski" in the name roll at the drop of a hat and I spend more time swimming than paddling in the Atlantic swell.

I do want to try this on the river next week, Arundel properly.

Was it worth the cash?

Macski Phoenix sells for around $1100 (£850) with delivery to the UK
UK import tax's and fees were were just under £450.

Lets call it £1300-£1400 by the time I've finish upgrading the seat, thigh straps and foot straps.

A mega hot kahuna list price is £1400 without accessories and delivery. Its easy to push the price up over £1800. Yes its a carbon built but do you really need it?

In my opinion thermoform is just as good as carbon if not better. I know its easier to fix. The bottom of the macski phoenix not scratch up yet..... but I have been gentle with it on Sussex's beaches.

The main selling point of the macski is the loading weight, It will take 135kg/ 20 stone person. I'm not too sure how it will handle with a 20 stone person on it but I will find one and test it.

Even with the import fees its a good ski for the money. Works well on the water and easy to use, no one can ask for more than that :)

Surfing is a big sport here in Brighton and being going strong since my childhood. There a surf life saving club too.
BSLSC is a dynamically developing and popular club affiliated to surf lifesaving GB. This club first started in the 1950’s as one of the first 3 SLSGB beach lifesaving clubs in Britain, the others being Bude and Perranporth in the West Country. The original club closed in the late 70’s due to older members not being replaced by younger members, as the original club never started a nippers or junior side. The club reformed 5 years ago, and since then has continued its rapid development.

It will rolling like all kayaks too.

All kayak's/ski's will roll, the point is when? While your sat taking a rest, you don't want to spend time endlessly rolling in the surf. It shags you out. The macski phoenix wasn't doing that this week. I've not tried rolling it yet, maybe when the sea's warmer.
