“Keir Starmer has said ministers will review online misinformation laws after a spreading of falsehoods contributed to this month’s far-right riots.
The prime minister said social media was “not a law-free zone” during a visit to a police station on Friday.
He was asked about remarks made by the London mayor, Sadiq Khan, that the Online Safety Act was not fit for purpose and needed to be revisited.
Asked whether he agreed with Khan, Starmer told broadcasters: I do agree that we’re going to have to look more broadly at social media after this disorder, but the focus at the moment has to be on dealing with the disorder and making sure that our communities are safe and secure.”
Source Guardian.
Excellent news. Far-right headbangers (or left) simply can not be left to spew their poisonous lies and misinformation about minority groups online.
They can NOT be trusted to behave responsibly, and people need to be held accountable for what they type and when they choose to type it.
We all saw what this led to in Southport when the slaughter of three innocent little girls led to yet more Islamophobia, national riots due to that Islamophobia and a huge rise in Islamophobia generally across the country.
You can not debate or have a grown up conversation with these people.
A self-entitled hate mob who appear to believe they are untouchable online and therefore entitled to type racist shite about Muslims etc as and when they please.
They will NOT change their toxic, dangerous views and even when evidence demonstrates that what they state as “fact” is actually fiction.
I am NO supporter of Keir Starmer or his Labour Party but bloody well done Keir and long overdue.
