Is it safe?

I thought I'd give the overgrown hedge a trim. After a few minutes cutting away it just cut out. Only then did I notice that i'd severed the electrical cable. In the old days that would have killed me stone dead! A big-ups to the modern fuse box!
Anyway, I've tapped the two ends together. It's working, but is it safe?

Bit late to reply I suppose as it is now September, but , of course that type of repair is unsafe...........yet most of my electrical gadgetry has t same form of repair ....and for the same reason.
