Optimist or pessimist??
It would be easy to look at the dregs in your glass right now, and muse...where did it all go wrong?:oops::mad:

On the other hand, the nights are getting lighter, Spring is round the corner (almost) and we are still fit enough to log in and talk a load of bollocks anytime we choose. :D:D:D

So which are you?

I think a good marker (if in doubt) is, when life in general is just plodding along with no great highs or no great lows, how do you feel when you wake up in the morning?
Do you.... leap out of bed looking forward to what the day will bring....:D
Pull the duvet over your head, already bored with what's in store today.

I'm very much a half-empty type. I always expect the worst, I don't believe anyone etc Until I'm proved wrong, then I'm pleasantly surprised and
pleased :)

I probably shouldn’t be based on 2021 - but I am glass half full, I look for the positive even if some days it is harder to find, there will always be something however small xx

I love that attitude, I try to aim for it, don't always succeed though.

My moods always seem to be centred around the weather, if it's sunny and warm...I am happy and my glass overflows.
Unfortunately, I live in the rainy north of England, so sometimes it's hard work.

The optimistic side of being a glass half empty type is...you don't get as disillusioned with people as much as glass half full ones.

It matters little to the glass.

It will be full, empty and half filled or empty over time.

As will life.

I'm more of a "Dammit, the glass has the wrong stuff in it, course it's half empty!"

That's true, but it's the way an individual perceives life....so forget about the glass now. ;)

One cannot ignore the glass, that is life.

The glass is reality, the description of it's contents are, as you rightly point out, simply subjective perception.

Whether or not the glass is half full or empty is, as you say, perception.
However, reality is what it is and it cares little of how you percieve it.

Simple conditional thought test.
If the glass is half empty, does that show a pessimistic view of life, wheras a glass half full may show an optimistic outlook?

Are those who think the glass is half empty more prone to depression?

Or are those who think the glass is half full often broken when thier reality fails to live up to thier dreams?

Does a glass half empty mentality lead to more suicides or is it the glass half full believers who give up hope?

Can it be that it can be both half full and half empty, why, because so is life.

Can one be full of hope for humanity, that one day we will stop the endless suffering we inflict on each other.
Yet also see we cannot due to the extreme views people hold without thought or reason and the greed that creates war/peace, or profit/loss.

Is it possible to be optimistic for humanity but also pessimistic as we have not got past ideology and greed?

Human nature needs to change, we need to understand we are capable of great good and great evil for the sake of ideologies and greed.

Only then can we really understand what it means to be human, if we simply embrace the adage "Do unto others as you would wish them to do unto you".

Although a religous quote, which I usually treat with disdain as I am no lover of religion, does it not equalise us all if we all embrace it?

I'm more accepting of Bill and Ted simply stating "Be excellent to each other";)

I don't think of it this way - mostly because I know I can get another drink

There are people who to whom bullshit comes easily.
Be it one line or ten.
Pretty sure people know that and who does it.

It's easier to talk a cat out of a tree than an idiot out of his opinions.

Hey guys let's be nice to each other, hey guys we have so much to learn from each other.

The entire "year" of research that reached that conclusion.

Is it a bear?

No, it's a tree

A tree is a tree.

No connection.

No relationship.

Random bullshit.

A bit of both really, but i do try to base it in reality. And It depends on the situation. I'm someone who will be fully optimistic about something, but then start to think about all of the negatives. Am i good enough? Will this work? Am i wasting someone's time being here? Those types of thoughts.
But i guess some do people have that same thought process on occasions where they'll have something really good and positive in their lives, and for whatever reason will doubt themselves and ruin it because the pessimism creeps in.

Yeah, overthinking things can make you doubt yourself, I think we can all go down that road.
I find I am most optimistic when I act on impulse.....and usually, they are the events that go right....no time for pessimism.
