Spending the weekend at Whitley Bay, I popped into a charity shop there. All the books were £1.75 each. £1.75! Tatty old, well-thumbed books with creases down the spines. I know it's for charity but they were 'aving a laugh.

I buy most of my books from charity shops and, yes, £1:75 is a lot. I never pay more than £1. These shops want a quick turnover of money, so it isn't in their interests to charge too much.

In this charity shop the DVD's were 50p each or 5 for £1, you can't argue with that. But I could only find 3 that I wanted. The lady charged me £1.50. Her reasoning was that it's £1 only if you buy 5, otherwise it's 50p each! This is close to madness.

What I hate about them is:

They get the stuff for free and then over price them

They justify it with the argument its for "charity". When I buy a second hand teasmaid it should be £5 less than a new one in argos

I was in a charity shop once, and a gothic looking gentleman came in.
Any deceased persons clothes in this week, vera he said to the lady behind the counter.
No not this week she said cheerfully!
I dunno what was going on there.
