Do people react to quotes from reviews and authors when they appear on book covers?

I read an article that some authors get paid to compliment other authors’ works.

Personally I can’t see the point.

Yes, people do tend to react to quotes from reviews and authors when they appear on book covers. These endorsements can influence readers' perceptions of the book and may even sway their decision to purchase it. Positive quotes can provide social proof and lend credibility to the book's quality and appeal.

As for authors being paid to compliment other authors' works, it's not uncommon for authors to offer endorsements or blurbs for other writers' books as a form of professional courtesy or networking. However, if there's direct payment involved solely for providing praise, it could raise ethical concerns about the authenticity of the endorsement. Readers may question the sincerity of such endorsements if they suspect they were paid for. Ultimately, genuine endorsements from respected authors can still hold significant weight in the eyes of readers, but transparency about any financial arrangements is crucial to maintain trust.
